The Anchorage School District (ASD) manages all public schools within the Municipality of Anchorage. It is the 81st largest school district in the United States, serving approximately 50,000 students at 93 schools. The Anchorage School District has its large size because most states are divided into counties, while the main population of Alaska is grouped into the Municipality of Anchorage. As one of the U.S.'s largest districts, it is often subject to greater amounts of standardized testing.
Carol Comeau is the current superintendent of the ASD.
