User talk

In order to keep conversations together, I am altering how I will respond to messages on talk pages:

  • If I left you a message: please answer on your talk page - it will be on my watchlist anyway, so I will see your response
  • If you leave me a message: I will answer on this talk page - please let me know if you need a talkback to let you know that I've answered.

This will ensure that conversations remain together!

vn-27This user talk page has been vandalized 27 times.

Hi

You were just very quick to note my vandalism, well done! However you may want to look closer at the pages for Lundwood and Penistone, they contain very subtle lies! Find them if thou be able nobleman!

I see you removed my speedy deletion template from Talk:Janurary 1,2009. I cannot see any reason why this page should not be deleted, as it does not contribute to Wikipedia at all. I am going to add the template again, could you please inform me if you object to this measure?

By the way, over the last half-hour you have been beating me over and over again at reverting vandalism in the RC. Well done! ;) Manfi (talk) 18:20, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied on your talk page. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:26, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all, but sorry for messing up your talk page! That must have been some kind of glitch, because I can't figure out how I did it. Manfi (talk) 18:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why are u deleting it?

Why are you deleting my edit on the Chris Trousdale page???

I know for a fact he likes to sing at that bar. I am the bouncer at that bar and he sings there every single Friday that he is in town!

Whats the deal here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rupe13 (talkcontribs) 08:40, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have you got any reliable sources showing that information? If not, your word is not sufficient for Wikipedia, which needs verifiable evidence (and verifiable does not mean that I can go along and see for myself!). Find reliable sources (e.g. mentions in newspapers) then you can add the information. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 08:43, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want me to give u his cell number?? Call him yourself and ask him where he has sang karaoke every friday night for the last few months..— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rupe13 (talkcontribs) 08:45, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I would like you to find references to this in newspaper articles or other reliable sources (how would I be able to verify that any number you gave me was his?) If you can provide these, then the article can mention it. If you can't, then it can't be mentioned in the article. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 08:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Taco Ockerse is my most important artist. He asked me to change this side, what I am trying since yesterday. Maybe I am doing a mistake, but my changes always are deleted.

Please, tell me what I am doing wrong!

Hi Roland.
To sign a comment, just add ~~~~ at the end of your comment and your user name and date/time will be added.
The information you added has not got any indication of where it came from (using reliable sources. You also have a Conflict of Interest. I looked but could not find any reliable sources of information about Taco (newspaper reports, etc) - please note that Taco's own website is not counted as a reliable source of information according to Wikipedia's guidelines). While the information you add is not sourced (for example, from a national newspaper - it doesn't have to be in English, we can get translations of newspaper articles), it isn't correct to add it to the article. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 10:06, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Taco (musician)

Hi Phantomsteve, what kind of source will be needed to prevent my changes being deleted? I really don't know what to do!

Best regards --Roland Colerus 10:35, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Roland.
As you will know, I withdrew my nomination for the article to be deleted.
To ensure that any information you add will be kept, you need to make sure that they are sourced from reliable sources.

If you find a book, magazine, newspaper article, etc that you want to use as a reference, just type one of the following after the information in the article which the reference is about:

  • Newspaper/Magazine article:
<ref>''Title of article'',author of article, (Title of newspaper/magazine, date of article, page(s), column(s))</ref>
  • Book:
<ref>''Title of book'', author of book, (publisher, date of publication, page(s))</ref>
  • Website:
<ref>[http://web-page-address ''Title of webpage''], author of page, date of page's creation, website name</ref>

For example:

  • John Smith was appointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.<ref>''An article in a well-known newspaper'', John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6 col 2)</ref>
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.<ref>''How do I create references?'', Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)</ref>
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonia.<ref>[http://www.a-reputable-website.org/a_useful_page.html ''How to Create Useful References''], PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org</ref>

Then at the bottom of the page, make sure you have the following two lines:

==References==
<references/> -or- {{reflist}}

This would generate (for the above examples):

  • John Smith was apointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.[1]
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.[2]
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonaia.[3]

References

  1. ^ An article in a well-known newspaper, John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6, col 2)
  2. ^ How do I create references?, Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)
  3. ^ How to Create Useful References, PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org

With basic references like this in place, more experienced editors can tidy them up! The hard bit can be finding references!

Please make sure you read the guideline Reliable Sources which details the kind of sources Wikipedia prefers to use.

If you have any questions, just ask me! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:26, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Panic

Am I correct you removed the section "Coping statements" from Panic Attack?

Last night in the middle of one I came to my bookmarked page so I could help my self through the attack and this list wasn't there.

Sometimes our edits may affect others. --FrankTownend (talk) 11:33, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.
You are not correct! I didn't remove the section you mention from that article. The only edit I have ever made (at 18:30, 18 September 2009) reverted the sentence "Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder which primarily consists of the fear of experiencing a difficult or embarrassing explosive diarahea situation" to "Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder which primarily consists of the fear of experiencing a difficult or embarrassing situation"
The version you are referring to was at the latest this one where that section was removed at 22:32, 21 July 2009 with the edit summary "Other treatments: removing this entire section. these are not different; they're all standard cognitive-behavioral techniques; CBT is already covered.)"
You are right that edits may affect others, but in this case the editor considered the coverage in the article Cognitive behavioral therapy covered the same ground. Please bear in mind that Wikipedia's aims do not include giving medical advice - that is the job of a trained GP or qualified counsellor. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:41, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response Steve.
I had some difficulty determining the editor so I wanted my comment to be considered "friendly". Thank you for taking it that way. You are also totally correct the goal of Wikipedia is not in giving medical advice. Strange thing about Panic Attacks in that because they are often 'self generated', they can sometime be stopped through repeating a simple list of calming statements. Thanks for responding, all the best! --FrankTownend (talk) 12:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you have this version bookmarked, you'll always have the page with the list you were looking for - that's a permanent link to that version. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:33, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Experimenting

Hey, i'm new to wikipedia, and it may take me some time before i'm able to create a proper article, i was experimenting, so if you;d be kind enough to remove the tag for deletion of an article and give me some time after which you can make your decision.

Hi Siddharth and welcome to Wikipedia. May I suggest that you experiment on a user page of your own, such as User:Siddinowiki/Sandbox (just click on the link to create it). I don't know which article that you created was tagged for deletion - I assume that it was Vish sastry rachakonda. That article was blanked by its creator, and that is generally a sign that the creator wants it deleted. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 12:21, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've put some new information on how to do this at Help talk:Template, in case you're still interested and haven't worked it out yet.--Kotniski (talk) 14:21, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle: Gold

Hi. This edit to Gold is certainly not vandalism, so it shouldn't have been reverted with Huggle, meaning without a descriptive edit summary. I have reverted to the IP's version as the clarification is useful if you read the paragraph (it is not obvious to lay persons that it is the only gold isotope, not the only isotope at all, that decays in that manner). If you have another reason to remove the insertion of the word gold in that sentence, you certainly may remove it, but please explain why. Thank you. The Seeker 4 Talk 15:43, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You were quite right to revert that - sorry, I misread the sentence and thought the word "gold" was superflous - but in fact it is necessary! Incidently, I didn't issue a warning - but you are correct, I shouldn't have reverted using Huggle, as this was not vandalism (I would normally have just done a manual edit, but didn't this time). Thanks for contacting me about this! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:48, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did not vandalize

i did not vandallize — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nobleroyalties (talkcontribs) 17:57, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I beg to differ. In the article James Monroe, you replaced the section "early years" with the statement "james monroe was a president...." - which was already mentioned in the first paragraph (in more detail than your sentence) and is also mentioned later on in the article. This is counted as vandalism. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:02, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A question

As you can see I'm editing the FC Zwolle page. I would like to add the competition results. I would like to use the Vertical Lines like on the Dutch Page [2] (See the link). My question is, what is the template used on the English wikipedia to create these vertical lines? -- RamonP 18:19, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RamonP.
Firstly, you need to alter your signature so that the bold ends at the end of your user name! Just change it to:
-- '''[[User:RamonP|RamonP]]'''
Although it would be nice to have a link in your sig that goes straight to your talk page!
Now onto graphs - I'm not sure that there is an equivalent to the Dutch BalkVerticaal2 - I couldn't find anything. All the graphs I've seen on the English Wikipedia are in fact images. You might want to look at Commons:Convert tables and charts to wiki code which talks about converting from HTML/PDF/CSV etc to wiki code. Or alternatively look at Wikipedia:How_to_create_graphs_for_Wikipedia_articles. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:27, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nate02343

This dude is constantly editing my work adding lewd or offensive content. Now he is editing my user page. He has had enough warnings to be blocked but I do not know what template to use could you take a look please. Jasenm222 (talk) 18:51, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nate02343 (talk  · contribs) has received a couple of warnings, but although they have done a few vandalism edits, they have only just got to the stage where another warning would trigger a block request. The user has received 3 warnings, but the last one was about 5 hours ago, so a request at WP:AIV would be declined. I'd just leave it for now - if they come back and do more within the next few hours, they would be listed for Admin intervention anyway. The important thing is that they vandalism was reverted. Why was my edit removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.252.67.2 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because it was vandalism. Incidently, the article was in fact Population geography (see dif) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:39, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:Heliosphere

I had to issue a level 2 warning for him here as well. Thanks --Sikh-History 17:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've redirected this article to the main article about the city itself, and left a notice on the creator's talk page. As this circumvents the need for deletion, I find it preferable; however, the creator of the article has undone the redirect several times. If you see that the redirect has been undone again, I'd ask that you replace it. Thanks. GlassCobra 20:43, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have also left a message on the creator's talk page, but they have ignored it. I don't want to get into a 3RR situation - I'm tempted to go straight to an AfD - and then someone (hint hint) can suggest the redirect there! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:45, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need your assistance

Hello, the PODS (company) page was marked by an anonymous IP as an advert recently. It's the same people who was causing issues previously. I wanted to see if you can jump in on the discussion. It's become rather annoying. Additionally, the user PODs Watch continues to harass myself and has vandalized the PODS page.

Hi Twalters82. As it's a one-off (at the moment), there's not much that can be done. If it happens a lot, then you can apply to have the page semi-protected, but at the moment it wouldn't be. With regard to User:PODs Watch, I can see that they have once altered the PODS (company) article, and three edits to your page - all to explain why they have proposed files for deletion (2 times) or why they removed a section from the article on the other occasion. I see no harrassment there (that user has a total of 11 edits - the 3 to your page, the 1 to the PODS (company) page, 4 file-deletion-related edits, 2 to their own pages and one to the Richards Group article). Only one of these could be regarded as vandalism - the PODS (Company) redirection - all the others appear to be valid edits. You might not like the proposals for deletion of the two images, but the editor is within their rights to propose them for deletion, even though I don't think they will get deleted.
I would not classify PODs Watch's behaviour as "harassment" - they have only vandalised the PODS page once, and has not had any direct interaction with you other than to let you know that they were proposing files for deletion.
Incidently, when you leave a message on a talk page, sign your post by typing four tildes (~~~~ at the end, as this will automatically add your user name and date/time, like this: -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 23:29, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Port Harcourt article vandalized

Hi there. Would you pls take a look at this article? There's a user who first edited via IP, and then even though you reverted his edit, the IP edits continued vandalising the page. Few hours later a new user appeared, & continued vandalising the page adding unsourced material. This seems to be a case of a member of a nigerian minority group laying claim on a city which fell into the property of the Federal Nigerian troops during the Biafra-Nigeria war. Amsaim (talk) 00:28, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've tidied it up, but as I know nothing about Port Harcourt, I wouldn't necessarily know what to remove! It might be an idea to leave a message at both the article's talk page and at WikiProject Nigeria's talk page, as there will be people with more knowledge about this than myself! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 07:18, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
