Initially, Naughty Dog hadn't had any plans for future Jak games, with only hints and comments providing clues to their decision. However, in mid 2006 a trademark for a possible future Jak and Daxter game was registered at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office called Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. This at the time was evidence that some sort of Jak game may be in the works. Co-President Evan Wells later stated that the new technology in their Uncharted: Drake's Fortune engine may be used for a new Jak and Daxter trilogy, as well as saying that "there is a lot of interest around the office in going back to that franchise Jak and Daxter and seeing what we could do with it using the Uncharted engine." Soon after this, some prototype game cinematics appeared on the Internet featuring old and new game characters in unfamiliar situations. In these cinematics Jak and Daxter are shown battling a robot on a location known as 'the island' and salvaging some parts for an inventor that looked like an elderly 'Vin'. Naughty Dog however refused to comment on these cinematics and this game title.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier was confirmed by High Impact Games on April 1, 2009 for release on November 3, 2009.[citation needed] At E3 2009 a trailer was released for the game.

History

Naughty Dog however refused to comment on these cinematics and this game title.[1][2] Naughty Dog did not show up at the E3 2008, this left many gamers and critics to wonder what they where up to,but soon after this in an IGN interview with Naughty Dog's Richard Lemarchand,[3]explains that "You won't have to wait too long for [the big revelation]." and that "We are working hard on something, and we haven't just been resting on our laurels". In December 2008, it was revealed that Naughty Dog where working on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

On April 1, 2009, SCEI announced The Lost Frontier to be released simultaneously for the PlayStation 2 and the PSP some time during Fall 2009.[4] Many fans were expecting this to be a PS3 game by Naughty Dog. However, Naughty Dog are currently working on the Uncharted franchise.[citation needed] High Impact Games has worked closely with Naughty Dog in the development of this game.[5] The time frame of the game is a bit ambiguous. Although IGN has stated that The Lost Frontier will pick up where Jak 3 left off, Keira is seen with a new outfit in the trailer, implying that it takes place after Jak X.

Gameplay

Little is known about the gameplay apart from the trailer and the leaked video of someone playing the demo of the game on the PSP. No multiplayer will be featured in the game, as High Impact is focusing purely on single player.

It has been said that 60% of it is actually platforming and vehicular combat, but 30% is flight. Which gives us 10% to play with some minigames, very similar to the percentage of vehicle combat in Jak 3.[by whom?]

It has been announced that Daxter gets a Dark form, though the story behind is still unrevealed.[6]
