Rolo Tomassi

Rolo Tomassi is a band from Sheffield, England, playing synth driven mathcore.[1] Their name is taken from the fictional character in the film LA Confidential. On 22 September 2008, the band released their debut album, 'Hysterics', through Hassle Records to positive reviews.

Early Years and the Mayday! Label

The band formed in 2005. Not long after forming, the band had written some songs and immediately began to perform at local venues/pubs (etc.) to small crowds. At this time, the band decided to release some of their first material on to a 3 Track Demo CD which they could sell at the shows they were performing at. The demo CD-R was released under James Spence's (vocalist) independent label which he named "Mayday!". At present there are 7 releases under this label:

After a split EP with Mirror! Mirror! the band signed to Holy Roar records and released a self-titled EP featuring re-recorded songs from previous demos and EPs along with new songs.

2008 - Present

In June 2008, Rolo Tomassi were given a spot at Download Festival[2].

The band was featured in the February 2009 edition of Rock Sound -- with singer Eva Spence appearing on the cover—along with The Bronx and Fucked Up as part of the magazine's Shred Yr Face 2 tour[3].

The band played the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas in March 2009.

On June 29, James Spence revealed that recording of the follow up album to Hysterics would commence during the summer of 2009.

Rolo Tomassi played on the 2nd of August at the Underage Festival, in East London. Demonstrating their mathcore riffs and guttural vocals from Eva Spence.[4]

The band also performed at Underage Festival and Sonisphere during August 2009.

On August 14 it was announced that Rolo Tomassi will be playing the Australian music festival Soundwave in 2010 alongside bands Faith No More, Meshuggah, Alexisonfire and Jane's Addiction.

4 Track Cassette Tape

The "4 Track Cassette Tape" is the second physical release by the band Rolo Tomassi. It was recorded at Ghost Town Studios in Leeds by Ross Halden at the end of June 2005. It was the band's first release through "Danger! Laser! Phaser! Razor!" and due to its limited availability it had sold out very soon after its release. In total there are 200 tapes and a variation of different styles of packaging.

Packaging styles:

  • 30 Black tapes in a draw-string cloth bag
  • 30 White tapes in a draw-string cloth bag
  • 70 Black tapes wrapped in blue paper with a button
  • 70 White tapes wrapped in blue paper with a button
