Francis Chan is the pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, CA, a Christian church he and his wife started in 1994.[1] He is also the Founder and Chancellor of Eternity Bible College[2] and author of the best-selling book, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God.[3]. And his release of "Forgotten God: Reversing our tragic neglect of the Holy Spirit" was in August 2009. ISBN-13: 9781434767950.

Chan is a nationally recognised pastor,[4] regularly speaking at major events and conferences nationally and internationally.[5][6][7][8]

Cornerstone and Chan's ministry

Chan and his wife founded Cornerstone in 1994 with only 30 people. Within two months, the church had grown to 100 people, and by 2000, Chan was leading a $1 million project to provide for the 1,600 member congregation.[9] Cornerstone is now one of the largest churches in Ventura County, California.[10]

Chan regularly uses a variety of approaches to ensure his messages are engaging and relevant.[11][12]

Chan frequently talks about 'What the bible is really saying' and really living our lives that way. He is not afraid of confronting lukewarmness,[13] but his challenge seems to draw more people to his message, rather than pushing them away.[14]

Biography

Chan's parents both died by the time he was 12 years old. He was somewhat close to his brother growing up. He did not get along well with his father, but says that his fear of his father has helped him understand a level of fear of God. He also stated he didn’t understand the love of God well until he became a father himself.[1]

As a high-school and then junior-college student, Chan was active in Christian youth groups which helped develop his faith in Christianity and his interest in ministry.[1]

Before becoming a senior pastor, Francis worked for a variety of employers including Taco Bell, Mic Pizza, Kirby Company, Ralphs Market, Broadway Mens Clothing, hardwood flooring contractors, and the Acapulco restaurant.[15]

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Master's College and a Master of Divinity degree from Master's Seminary.[16]

After a three-month leave from Cornerstone, Francis said he felt convicted to sacrifice more for God. He moved into a smaller home and his church now gives away 50% of its income to charity and service.[citation needed]
