Montréal-Nord (Template:Lang-en) is a borough (arrondissement) of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It consists entirely of the former city of Montreal North on Island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It was amalgamated into the City of Montreal on January 1, 2002.
Geography
The borough is an oblong municipal division situated along the Rivière des Prairies, in the northeastern part of the island.
It is bordered to the west by Ahuntsic-Cartierville, to the southwest by Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, to the south by Saint Leonard, at the southeast corner by Anjou, and to the east by Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles.
Major thoroughfares in Montréal-Nord include Saint Michel Blvd., Pie IX Blvd. (Autoroute 25), Lacordaire Blvd., Langelier Blvd., Léger Blvd., and Henri Bourassa Blvd. The Pie IX Bridge connects Montreal North to the Laval district of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.
It has an area of 11.07 km² and a population of 83,911.

Politics
Federal and provincial elections
The borough is located almost entirely in the federal riding of Bourassa, except for a tiny southeastern corner in Honoré-Mercier.
The provincial electoral district of Bourassa-Sauvé is coterminous with the borough except for a northwestern section in the electoral district of Crémazie.
Borough Government
The present borough mayor is Marcel Parent.
The citizens of the borough elect three city councillors, who at present are Marcel Parent, Jean-Marc Gibeau, and James V. Infantino.
The borough is also divided into two districts, each of which elect one borough councillor:
- Marie-Clarac (councillor: Georgette L. Morin)
- Ovide-Clermont (councillor: Normand Fortin)
Riot
For yet undisclosed reasons on Saturday, August 9 of 2008 the officers of the SPVM (Montréal police department) appear to have shot and killed Honduran immigrant Freddy Alberto Villanueva.[6] This served to set off the tensions that had already been simmering in this multi-ethnic borough, and riots erupted the next evening (2008-08-10), after an otherwise peaceful protest march in the afternoon.
The rioters looted neighborhood stores, several cars and garbage cans were set on fire, one paramedic and two police officers were wounded and one female police officer shot.[7] Firetrucks and firefighters arriving to put out the fires were then targeted by the rioters.[6]
