* Mount Carmel High School (Chicago) I have done a lot of referencing and citing, with some rewriting and expansion. This article was assessed as "mid", and was reduced to "low" because an editor felt almost all high schools were low priority. I have bumped back to mid, but would like independent confirmation. I think the referencing gives it a "C", though it may be close to a "B". LonelyBeacon (talk) 02:29, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Template:WPSchool Sidebar

Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject Schools! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's School articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

If you have just rated an article, please leave a short summary here to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the article.

Ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the WPSchools project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories.

Frequently asked questions

How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Schools WikiProject is free to add—or change—the rating of an article. However, please review WP:COI before rating an article you are heavily involved in.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Instructions

An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the WPSchools project banner on its talk page:

If the article already has an infobox, add the line: needs-infobox=no. By adding "info=<text of assessment>" this template will generates a boilerplate assessment text.

Process

  1. Tag an article related to this project (or look at a tagged article).
  2. Read the article and analyze it.
  3. Place your assessment in the WPSchools banner on the articles talk page (According to the scales below).
  4. Write a short summary and post it on the talk page (in the info parameter if you are using WPSchools) and in the Assessment Summaries section below.

Quality scale

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the WikiProject Banner Shell. Articles that have the WPSchools project banner on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class school articles)  FA
A (adds articles to Category:A-Class school articles)  A
GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class school articles)  GA
B (adds articles to Category:B-Class school articles) B
C (adds articles to Category:C-Class school articles) C
Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class school articles) Start
Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class school articles) Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class school articles)  FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class school articles) List

For non-standard grades and non-mainspace content, the following values may be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class school articles) Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class school articles) Disambig
Draft (for drafts; adds pages to Category:Draft-Class school articles) Draft
FM (for featured media only; adds pages to Category:FM-Class school articles)  FM
File (for files and timed text; adds pages to Category:File-Class school articles) File
Portal (for portal pages; adds pages to Category:Portal-Class school articles) Portal
Project (for project pages; adds pages to Category:Project-Class school articles) Project
Redirect (for redirect pages; adds pages to Category:Redirect-Class school articles) Redirect
Template (for templates and modules; adds pages to Category:Template-Class school articles) Template
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:NA-Class school articles) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed school articles) ???

Note: You should not assign any GA, A, FA or FL grades arbitrarily. These grades must pass through official Wikipedia channels and undergo a peer review process.

The article has obtained Featured article status.
More detailed criteria
The article must meet the featured article criteria:

A featured article exemplifies Wikipedia's very best work and is distinguished by professional standards of writing, presentation, and sourcing. In addition to meeting the policies regarding content for all Wikipedia articles, it has the following attributes.

  1. It is:
    1. well-written: its prose is engaging and of a professional standard;
    2. comprehensive: it neglects no major facts or details and places the subject in context;
    3. well-researched: it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature; claims are verifiable against high-quality reliable sources and are supported by inline citations where appropriate;
    4. neutral: it presents views fairly and without bias;
    5. stable: it is not subject to ongoing edit wars and its content does not change significantly from day to day, except in response to the featured article process; and
    6. compliant with Wikipedia's copyright policy and free of plagiarism or too-close paraphrasing.
  2. It follows the style guidelines, including the provision of:
    1. a lead: a concise lead section that summarizes the topic and prepares the reader for the detail in the subsequent sections;
    2. appropriate structure: a substantial but not overwhelming system of hierarchical section headings; and
    3. consistent citations: where required by criterion 1c, consistently formatted inline citations using footnotes—see citing sources for suggestions on formatting references. Citation templates are not required.
  3. Media. It has images and other media, where appropriate, with succinct captions and acceptable copyright status. Images follow the image use policy. Non-free images or media must satisfy the criteria for inclusion of non-free content and be labeled accordingly.
  4. Length. It stays focused on the main topic without going into unnecessary detail and uses summary style where appropriate.

Professional, outstanding, and thorough; a definitive source for encyclopedic information.

No further content additions should be necessary unless new information becomes available; further improvements to the prose quality are often possible.

FL
The article has obtained Featured list status.
More detailed criteria
The article must meet the featured list criteria:
  1. Prose. It features professional standards of writing.
  2. Lead. It has an engaging lead that introduces the subject and defines the scope and inclusion criteria.
  3. Comprehensiveness.
  4. Structure. It is easy to navigate and includes, where helpful, section headings and table sort facilities.
  5. Style. It complies with the Manual of Style and its supplementary pages.
  6. Stability. It is not the subject of ongoing edit wars and its content does not change significantly from day to day, except in response to the featured list process.
List of schools in Northland, New Zealand
(as of June 2008)
A
The article is well organized and is essentially complete, having been reviewed by impartial reviewers from a WikiProject or elsewhere, as described here.
More detailed criteria
 A

Provides a well-written, clear and complete description of the topic, as described in Wikipedia:Article development. It should be of a length suitable for the subject, appropriately structured, and be well referenced by a broad array of reliable sources. It should be well illustrated, with no copyright problems. Only minor style issues and other details need to be addressed before submission as a featured article candidate. See the A-Class assessment departments of some of the larger WikiProjects (e.g. WikiProject Military history).

Very useful to readers. A fairly complete treatment of the subject. A non-expert in the subject matter would typically find nothing wanting. Expert knowledge may be needed to tweak the article, and style issues may need addressing. Peer-review may help. Lethbridge Collegiate Institute
(as of June 2008)
(only existing A class school article)
GA
The article has obtained Good article status.
More detailed criteria
The article must meet the good article criteria:

A good article is:

  1. Well-written:
    1. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct; and
    2. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  2. Verifiable with no original research:
    1. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    2. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose);
    3. it contains no original research; and
    4. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
  3. Broad in its coverage:
    1. it addresses the main aspects of the topic; and
    2. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
    1. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content; and
    2. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
Useful to nearly all readers, with no obvious problems; approaching (although not equalling) the quality of a professional encyclopedia. Some editing by subject and style experts is helpful; comparison with an existing featured article on a similar topic may highlight areas where content is weak or missing. Aquinas College, Perth
(as of July 2008)
B
The article is mostly complete and without major issues, but requires some further work to reach Good Article standards. B-Class articles should meet the six B-Class criteria:
More detailed criteria
  1. The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited. Any format of inline citation is acceptable: the use of <ref> tags and citation templates such as cite web is optional.
  2. The article reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies. It contains a large proportion of the material necessary for an A-Class article, although some sections may need expansion, and some less important topics may be missing.
  3. The article has a defined structure. Content should be organized into groups of related material, including a lead section and all the sections that can reasonably be included in an article of its kind.
  4. The article is reasonably well-written. The prose contains no major grammatical errors and flows sensibly, but does not need to be of the standard of featured articles. The Manual of Style does not need to be followed rigorously.
  5. The article contains supporting materials where appropriate. Illustrations are encouraged, though not required. Diagrams, an infobox etc. should be included where they are relevant and useful to the content.
  6. The article presents its content in an appropriately understandable way. It is written with as broad an audience in mind as possible. The article should not assume unnecessary technical background and technical terms should be explained or avoided where possible.
No reader should be left wanting, although the content may not be complete enough to satisfy a serious student or researcher. A few aspects of content and style need to be addressed, and expert knowledge is increasingly needed. The inclusion of supporting materials should also be considered if practical, and the article checked for general compliance with the manual of style. Institut Le Rosey
(as of July 2008)
C
The article is substantial, but is still missing important content or contains a lot of irrelevant material. The article should have some references to reliable sources, but may still have significant issues or require substantial cleanup.
More detailed criteria
The article is better developed in style, structure and quality than Start-Class, but fails one or more of the criteria for B-Class. It may have some gaps or missing elements; need editing for clarity, balance or flow; or contain policy violations such as bias or trivia. Articles on fictional topics are likely to be marked as C-Class if they are written from an in-universe perspective.
Useful to a casual reader, but would not provide a complete picture for even a moderately detailed study. Considerable editing is needed to close gaps in content and address cleanup issues. Northwood School (Durban North, South Africa)
(as of July 2008)
Start
An article that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources.
More detailed criteria
The article has a usable amount of good content, but it is weak in many areas, usually in referencing. Quality of the prose may be distinctly unencyclopedic, and MoS compliance non-existent; but the article should satisfy fundamental content policies such as notability and BLP, and provide enough sources to establish verifiability. No Start-Class article should be in any danger of being speedily deleted.
Provides some meaningful content, but the majority of readers will need more. Provision of references to reliable sources should be prioritised; the article will also need substantial improvements in content and organisation. Black Forest Academy
(as of July 2008)
Stub
A very basic description of the topic.
More detailed criteria
The article is either a very short article or a rough collection of information that will need much work to become a meaningful article. It is usually very short, but can be of any length if the material is irrelevant or incomprehensible.
Provides very little meaningful content; may be little more than a dictionary definition Any editing or additional material can be helpful. The provision of meaningful content should be a priority. The Grange School, Aylesbury
(as of July 2008)

Importance scale

School articles are rated on this importance scale. Importance must be regarded as a relative term. If importance values are applied within this project, these only reflect the perceived importance to this project and to the work groups the School falls under. An article judged to be "Top-Class" in one context may be only "Mid-Class" in another project. The criteria used for rating article priority are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the topic is. Rather, they attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it). Importance assessments, especially of schools in the higher categories, are frequently reassessed and may go up or down in order to retain an appropriate balance within each country and within all the categories. Assessors are not experts on the schools in every country of the world, and will only make assessments based on the content of the existing article. Assessors can also check viewing stats for school articles using the Wikipedia stats tool, though stats will only be used in combination with other factors.

Article importance standards

Assessments should not, in general, leave this field blank. This guide acts as a general standard by which to measure WikiProject:Schools articles

  • Top-importance - It is expected that at least one article from each country should be in this category. Countries with higher populations will necessarily have more schools of top importance. Top importance schools will usually have a long list of notable international alumni or important national alumni (eg, prime ministers, presidents, senior royalty, Nobel prize winners). They will often have received substantial national or international media coverage as evidenced by inclusion in TV programmes, books, e.t.c. They will be the most notable schools in their particular country, and they are also likely to have articles in foreign-language Wikis.
  • High-importance - Such schools will usually have a long list of notable alumni. They are often amongst the oldest or highest performing schools in their particular country. They will have received substantial media coverage and multiple sources will be available to aid the expansion of the article. Schools which feature in other encyclopedias such as Microsoft Encarta or Encylopedia Britannica are included in this category if they are not already of top importance.
  • Mid-importance - Such schools will have a few elements of more general national interest (e.g. a few particularly noteworthy and important alumni or significant awards).
  • Low-importance - Low importance schools are of vital interest to their communities but have no national or international recognition or importance. Nearly all primary/elementary schools and middle schools will fall into this category, as will the majority of high/secondary schools.
  • ??? - This is the default setting and should also be used for articles which have been assessed but have not had their importance established.

School age

School ages are considered in relative terms within countries. For example a school founded in the eighteenth century is often young in European terms. For further reference see:

Assessment requests

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please feel free to list it below. If you assess an article, please strike it off using <s>Strike-through text</s> so that other editors will not waste time going there too. Old and fulfilled requests are periodically removed from the list.

Please note: If you aim for an article to be promoted to GA, A, or FA class, please consider requesting a peer review as well so the article can be exposed to closer scrutiny from a broader group of editors. This section is also not intended to replace Wikipedia:Good article nominations and Wikipedia:Featured article candidates.

Add requests to the bottom of this list, please also sign your request by adding four tildes (~~~~):

Assessment summaries

Leave a short summary here to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the article:

January 2009

February 2009

  • Trunnell Elementary School (C/Low) is a new article up for "did you know" on the main page. Its well written with lots of refs but I cannot see its notability. What is the projects view? Victuallers (talk) 19:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Australian International School Singapore (C/Low) upgraded from (Stub/Low). Needs additional references and expansion concerning curriculum/extracurricular activities but it is much better organized than before with some sources. --Jh12 (talk) 22:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • George Walton Comprehensive High School (C/Mid) upgraded from (Start/Mid). first referenced link was broken; second intro paragraph reads like a laundry list of achievements instead of an intro; Teams section provides nothing but external links (no notable information on why team is mentioned); At times reads like a possible COI. -- Lucas20 (talk) 05:31, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • John S. Burke Catholic High School (C/Low) upgraded from (Stub/Low). intro- strong. could nitpick on the "accomplishments" as this is somewhat subjective. More history should be included as a school open since 1899. Student life- added citation request for "many students" (how many). Many change section heading to "Independent Operations" - seems long. Definitely no longer a stub. Prioritize added an infobox. I could be persuaded on bumping from Low to Mid on the importance scale, was not really sure how impactful the teacher strikes were so I measured in conservatively. -- Lucas20 (talk) 17:47, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bridgnorth Endowed School (C/High) This article has gone from being up for deletion to being a pretty good piece of work, and this article has clear potential to be a good article (GA) or even featured (FA). Under WP:ASSESS I am granting this article C-class for its present state. For B-class or higher the article will need to be meet the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria, of which this article does not yet fully meet. The first issue is that this article lacks references, it has some but not enough for the length of the article, and more should be added. In particular there are no references at all for the alumni section, there should be at least one per claim, and cite web and other similar templates should be used if possible. The article is also rather short on coverage, which would need to be resolved fully for GA or FA class, and improved a bit for B class. The article contains a lot on history on alumni, but not much else. Much more content can be added on issues such as notable staff, curriculum, Ofsted inspections, extra curricular activities, and the uniform if there is one and it is worthy of note. The pictures are good but the infobox should contain the school logo if possible. The importance of this school could be debated, it certainly beyond low importance and is above the average mid importance school, while it is probably not nationally well known enough for top importance, hence I am giving the article high importance. Camaron | Chris (talk) 14:41, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Marin Academy (B/Mid) This is following a review of the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria: 1) The article is quite well referenced, with lots of in-line citations. Some gaps but this is acceptable for B-class. 2) Covers the just enough topics for B-class, key stuff is there, but more on history might be good. 3) Article is reasonably well structured, but the pictures might need to be moved around a bit so text is not squashed between them and the infobox. 4) Article is reasonably well written, strict WP:MOS compliance will be required for higher article ratings however. 5) Article has an infobox, pictures, and a logo as required. 6) No obviously inappropriate content. I am giving the article mid importance for its alumni, and for being quite well known. Camaron | Chris (talk) 15:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Desegregation busing in the United States (C/High) A critical topic for the schools project. However, relies heavily on too few sources and needs some organizing/cleanup. Expanded sources, use of media, and attention to prose would push this toward GA. Title is also somewhat unwieldy and should be changed. Adam McCormick (talk) 21:27, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Limavady Grammar School (B/Mid) - Much improved, I have reviewed this article against Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. The article is generally well referenced, with most references using citation templates which is a plus, a few gaps still evident and marked but these are not worthy of note for B-class. The article covers the topic reasonably well, some sections such as history might be expandable (though it should only be expanded if references can be found); most sections needed are included. The article has an infobox and the logo, some pictures would be great but this is not required for B-class. Article content is not too technical generally. Camaron | Chris (talk) 18:25, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bridgnorth Endowed School (B) - See above for the other assessment of February 2009. I am generally now satisfied it meets Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. The article is generally well referenced, a few gaps perhaps and use of cite web is encouraged though is not required for B-class. The article is full of lots of material, and contains most of the stuff needed for a good article. The structure is okay, though the history section is very long and might need to be split into multiple sub-sections. Some things should probably have their own sections, see WP:WPSCH/AG for suggested layouts. Overall, I am giving this article B-class and I will list it under GA potential candidates at WP:WPSCH. Camaron | Chris (talk) 19:27, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Grassfield High School (Start/Low) - Requested. Barest minimum for a start. Some specific suggestions are: to add history, demographic, and community information; Add media items (pictures, etc..); and to find more sources. One great idea is to have a look at what a GA-class school article looks like. Please let the department know if you need any help. Adam McCormick (talk) 04:47, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Marrickville High School (Start/Low) up from (Stub/Low) Though the article has a fair amount of information, it has only a single reference (the location of the school on the school website) and is mainly lists. History section needs to be put in paragraph form, and trivial, non-notable information removed. «O73» 17:07, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ancillae Assumpta Academy (Stub/Low) from (Stub/???) School is a PK-8, nothing notable. Article is less than 100 words, obviously stub. «O73» 16:42, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Adams Central High School (Stub/Low) from (Stub/???) Nothing in the article points to any national notability. Article also less than 100 words. «O73» 16:46, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

March 2009

April 2009

  • Oswego High School (New York) (Start/Low) Good start for a school article. Most of the information, however, is in list format. The article narrative should be expanded next. You may want to consider adding two important categories: history and notable alumni. Also, your intro should summarize what is in the article, not give general information. I am not sure anything in your intro is in the article itself. For more ideas and school project guidelines, see WP:WPSCH/AG. -ForgottenManC (talk) 00:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dharmaraja College (C/High) A long and detailed article, which I am assessing as C / High after a request. Good to see an infobox and lots of appropriate pictures, as well as many in-line citations. To improve the article it needs better referencing, citation templates should be used as much as possible, see Wikipedia:Citation templates for a guide. The history section dominates the article and contains many paragraphs without section breaks, this section should be broken up into different eras and some content perhaps moved elsewhere. The section also needs to be checked for neutrality, some peacock terms seem evident such as Dharmaraja College, Kandy is one of the premier Buddhist Schools in the country boasting a prolific history of more than 120 years since 30th of June 1887. Some sections could do with expanding, try to give prose with context rather than lists where possible. More information on curriculum would be good, the article seems to focus on sports and common extra-curricular activities. A separate list for alumni for the amount this article has is a good idea and should be kept, but keep an appropriate summary. The trivia section should be removed if possible, by integrating its contents into the rest of the article. Finally, the external links are excessive, only key ones should be present, per WP:EL. I am giving this article high importance due to its long history and alumni as found at List of Dharmaraja College alumni. Camaron | Chris (talk) 16:44, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Groton-Dunstable Regional High School (B) This article has come a long way since its previous assessment, and I must congratulate Casualskeptic (talk · contribs) for his/her work on it. I have reviewed the article against the B-Class criteria and I am satisfied that it passes. Could become a Wikipedia:Good article with work, the article contains most sections needed but does still have some weaknesses. First the article is generally well referenced, though citation templates should be used as much as possible, see Wikipedia:Citation templates. The campus and history section are a little short, a bit more detail would be great. The alumni section is short and unreferenced, and a notable former teachers section could be added if there are any. Some pictures of the campus and the logo (for the infobox) would really enhance the article as well. Camaron | Chris (talk) 14:09, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

May 2009

June 2009

  • Lamar High School (Houston, Texas) promoted to (B/Mid) Article a lot of useful information and useful pictures; certainly exceeds start quality. Despite the template asking for additional citations, there are 122 citations under the references section. In my opinion, this article is comparable to several of the GA school articles, and as an editor who went through the GA process with a school article myself, I believe this article could easily pass GA with just some minor tweaking. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 23:53, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Highland Park High School (Highland Park, Illinois) (C/High) This is well established article, with plenty of content and references, and could be B or even GA class with some work. The article structure is okay but sections such as history could do with expansion. The lead (introuduction) could do with expanding, it should introduce the topic and summarise each section of the article. References could also be improved with some sections having only one reference, use of cite web and other such templates would also be a good idea. Importance is more difficult to gauge here, it is at least Mid importance but probably not well known enough for Top importance. The school has a long history, dating back to the 1850s which is a long time for a U.S. school, the alumni list is also very extensive. The TV show, while not well known but it won an award, is probably enough to push it over to high importance. Camaron · Christopher · talk 09:59, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Davidson High School (New South Wales) (B/Mid) This is an impressive article, and credit must be given to its authors, and this can certainly be GA or even FA with some further work. The article is well referenced with one or two gaps e.g. principles, but it is good to see use of templates in refs. The history section is a little long - I would consider splitting this into sub-sections. The lead should also probably be a bit longer, it should summarise the entire article. Some parts of the article are a little bit promotional, for example Davidson High School has a long and colourful history in the performing arts, dating back to the school's establishment sounds a bit peacock like to me, I would re-phrase this. Also, more pictures, as requested would be great. The article's importance rating also needs to be reviewed, the well sourced alumni section certainly shows Mid-importance, though more would be needed for High-importance. • Amador Valley High School (B/Mid) This is an impressive article, and hence I am granting it B-class, there are areas that could be improved but it still passes Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. The illustration of the article is very good, there are a few suggestions I can give though. First, the image in the infobox should generally be the logo, rather than it being in bedded deep into the article. Second, the images (except the logo, as it is non-free) should probably be moved to Wikimedia Commons, there they can be used on any Wikimedia project and you can create a dedicated gallery page and link to it from this article. If you need any help, ask me. Third, having the text squashed between the image and the info box looks a bit awkward, I would move stuff around a bit to avoid this if possible. The standard of referencing is pretty good, though not all refs use templates such as cite web, which I recommend they do so so to help all needed information be given for each ref and to improve the look of the article. The lead should possibly be expanded a bit more to fully summarise the entire article. There is also one reference missing with the alumni. For importance I am upping this article to mid importance given the schools history, awards, and alumni. Following this assessment I am listing it at WP:WPSCH as a potential good article candidate. • Whitney High School (Rocklin, California) (B/Mid) It has been requested that the C-class rating on this article be reviewed. This article is well referenced and contains most content needed, so I am immediately raising it to B-class, where GA candidates should be. My main suggestions for further improvement are to add more pictures - and put the school logo in the infobox. Some mention of notable alumni would be good also if any can be found. I am also giving the article Mid importance, its California Distinguished School status and history are enough for this. Note that this article is currently a GA candidate. Camaron · Christopher · talk 10:49, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wheaton Warrenville South High School (B/High) It has been requested that I assess this article, it has so far only been bot assessed as Start class. Given the amount of content this at least deserves C-class. Reviewing it against the B-Class criteria I would say it is generally suitably referenced (criteria 1), some gaps apparent in architecture and academics but still good enough for B-class, it covers the topic well, nothing major seems to be missing (criteria 2), well structured (criteria 3), article seems to follow the WP:MOS okay (criteria 4), has enough images (criteria 5), and is understandable to users who had not previously heard of the school (criteria 6). So overall, seems to be a B-class pass and a potential GA candidate. This article history and alumni certainly merit giving it High importance, though this is not overwhelming enough, nor does the school have enough international recognition for Top importance at this time. Camaron · Christopher · talk 11:16, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Proviso East High School (B/High) Seems to be a solid B-class article, though a few areas could be improved. The Academics section is rather short, could any more information be found? More information on non-curricular activities other than athletics might be good also. There is also a referencing error, plus a few ref gaps in the alumni section. The schools eventful history and alumni certainly give this article High importance, perhaps Top, though more discussion would be needed for the latter. Also, I am listing this as another potential GA candidate. Camaron · Christopher · talk 12:02, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oak Park and River Forest High School (B/High) The article is long and detailed and contains most of the content needed for a great school article. The main gaps are in some refs for alumni, a few more pictures of the school within the middle sections of the article would be good also. The school's long history and alumni merit high importance, and I will add this as another potential good article candidate. Camaron · Christopher · talk 13:30, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Direct grant grammar school (B/Mid) The article is well written, contains plenty of well cited references, and seems to have most content needed so hence I am giving it B-class. The importance of school type articles is more ambiguous than for individual school article, as this article contains important history and is linked to many important schools, I am giving it Mid importance. Its UK only nature however would make High/Top importance inappropriate. Camaron · Christopher · talk 14:57, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Royal Grammar School, Guildford (High) A long article with lots of content, but it is poorly referenced and given the importance of referencing it prevents this article getting a quality rating higher than Start till it is resolved. The long list of alumni, the chained library, the cricket history provide a convincing case for high importance, though I would prefer if some of these claims were referenced. Camaron · Christopher · talk 18:24, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • History of Oak Park and River Forest High School (B/High) Split off of Oak Park and River Forest High School which is already assessed as high importance, good enough quality also for B-class. Camaron · Christopher · talk 09:47, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

September 2009

  • Montrose Academy (C/High) While not all claims are referenced there is enough here of importance including history and extra-curricular activities to justify high-importance. This article is certainly now beyond a Stub, and close to B-class. First, the lead could do with more work. It seems to have a lot of focus on the dome, it should only introduce the article and summarise all the other sections in the article. There also seem to be a lack of sources for dome related info in this article, who says it is the most famous aspect? The history section is pretty good though refs should be after full stops. I am not sure what the point of the organization section is, it is written in a promotional tone, the content here should probably be merged into the rest of the article in a more neutral fashion. The Departments section needs at least some text and sources to explain it. The Sports section is well sourced but again rather promotional in tone and sports do fall under extra-circular activities. The extra-curricular activities section is okay, though it currently focuses on one issue, it should probably be expanded including having sports merged into it. The alumni section desperately needs references, particularity with WP:BLP, and usually everybody listed there should meet WP:N for their own article per WP:NNC, so either there should be a blue or red link for each person per WP:REDLINK. While not required for B-class, the sources should probably be cleaned up to use templates such as cite web with as much of the source info e.g. date, publisher filled in for each source as possible. Camaron · Christopher · talk 17:28, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bishop McGuinness High School (Oklahoma) (B/Mid) First, the athletic history of the school is probably enough for mid-importance, so I will give it that. I have marked the logo as having some problems which need resolving, as it is copyrighted the resolution needs to be drastically reduce, a source (i.e. a link) for where the image came from needs to be given, and a fair use rationale needs to be provided. The other images I have tagged as candidates to be moved to Wikimedia Commons as it would allow them to be used by other projects. For B-class the article must meet the B-class criteria at WP:BCLASS. I will review the article against them now:
  • Criterion 1: The article is generally well referenced with plenty of inline citations. Use of citation templates is not required for B-class but are used here, however some of the parameters seem to be missing, see Template:Cite web and fill in as many as possible per source.
  • Criterion 2: The article could still do with some expansion, though enough of the important sections are covered for B-class. WP:WPSCH/AG covers most possible sections in school articles, obvious ones missing here include notable alumni and extra-circular activities beyond athletics (which can be split off from Academics). Existing sections could do with expansion as well, for example the history section has little beyond 1962.
  • Criterion 3: Article has a clear layout, and a lead section is included. The lead could do with expansion, it should summarise the article as well as introduce it per WP:LEAD.
  • Criterion 4: Is well written enough for B-class, no serious issues with the writing style.
  • Criterion 5: An infobox and illustrations included.
  • Criterion 6: No issues with technical terms.
Overall, I will give this article a pass for B-class. Camaron · Christopher · talk 17:57, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Criterion 1: The article is reasonably well referenced. It is good that citation templates are used but try and fill in as many as the parameters as possible fore each reference, see cite web for an example for all those available. Again, more of the alumni needs sourcing, but the sourcing is good enough overall for B-class.
  • Criterion 2: Most sections needed are covered, though some are tagged for expansion, this is good enough for B-class.
  • Criterion 3: The article structure is okay but not brilliant. File:Jamaica location map.svg should be in a thumbnail, and some of the section headings are done incorrectly, see WP:MOSHEAD. The lead could do with some more work; it should summarise the article more, currently it seems to focus on alumni and school objectives. Things from other section such as history should be briefly mentioned here too, see WP:LEAD. Overall however, the structure is still good enough for B-class.
  • Criterion 4: Some parts of the article could do with being wikified, and bold is used excessively, see WP:MOSBOLD, however the article does not need to follow the WP:MOS rigorously for B-class.
  • Criterion 5: I notice there are a lot of fair use images appearing in the article, such images must meet WP:NFCC. File:JC 2007 Manning Cup Victory.jpg is not replaceable so may be okay, but does it really improve the article enough to justify use of copyrighted material? File:JC NUMBER 1.jpg is a replaceable image, and further images of the logo in addition to the one at the top of the article are not needed. Some non-copyrighted images, perhaps photographs by editors, would be great, but the infobox and logo are enough for B-class.
  • Criterion 6: No issues with accessibility.
Overall, I will give this a pass for B-class. Camaron · Christopher · talk 10:02, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dhaka Residential Model College (B/Mid) A nice article, seems to pass the B-class criteria fine. Getting articles to good article/featured article status is not my speciality though there are few suggestions I can give. Some of the article's punctuation needs to be checked, references should be after full stops and commas. Capital letters should normally only be used for proper nouns, and the first letter of section headings and sentences, see WP:MOSCAPS; capital letters seem to be used excessively in some areas e.g. most subject names should not be captialised. Bold is also sometimes overused, see WP:MOSBOLD. The image in the infobox should usually be the school logo, which can be uploaded under a claim of fair use. I have trouble following part of the lead, what a "shift" is needs to be made clearer. Avoid too much detail on one aspect in the lead it should only introduce and summarise the article per WP:LEAD. Some sections such as education are rather list like, per WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI prose with context to the school is better. The referencing seems okay, though there are a few gaps such as not all alumni having a reference. Also I get the impression that more parameters could be filled in for some refs. I am giving this article Mid-importance for now based on alumni. Camaron · Christopher · talk 10:35, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

October 2009

  • FA: No problems, all approved FAs on the main project page.
  • FL: No problems, all approved FLs on the main project page.
  • A: Only Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, fine as project approved but other projects have it as GA-class instead.
  • GA: Broad Run High School and Scotch College, Perth have been recently demoted, project was not notified so are still listed on the main project page, but both seem to be reasonable demotions. I will update the list to bring the category and the main project page even at 23 GAs.
  • B-class:
  • Top-importance: All articles checked and seemed fine, mistakes and missing entries at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools now corrected. All "spin-off" articles of top importance school articles, such alumni lists and history, are now marked as top importance article per general logical practice to give such articles the same importance as the main articles as they are part of one "product". The Doon School was listed as top importance on the project page but never actually given it (was high importance). I have now given it top importance due to its alumni containing some very important people in Indian history, including a prime minister and many cabinet members. It also seems appropriate given that there is currently only one other Top-importance Indian school, despite India been one of the most populated countries in the world.

Assessment team

An alphabetical list of those of us who assess articles for the project (For individual contributions see above):

Apprentices

Assessors who are new to assessing school articles; anyone can add themselves to this list if they wish to assess school articles. These users should summarise all their assessments in the assessment summaries section to allow feedback to be given easily.

Experienced

Assessors who are experienced on assessing school articles; users should only be added to this list if there is consensus in the assessment team that they have the experience necessary. These users do not need to summarise their assessments in the assessment summaries section unless it involves granting an article a quality status higher than C-Class, or an importance status higher than Mid. However, any assessment made by this group of assessors can still be contested or queried by any user.
