Shanel, thanks for your support on my RFA. I was rather suprised at the overwhelming support I received. Thank you for your confidence in me. I hope that I'll live up to your expectations in the future as well. -- malo <small>(tlk) (cntrbtns)</small> 04:34, 21 December 2005 (UTC) </div> |

Hey, thanks for the note, and for helpin out. I had a go at this translation job.
Original text: À la suite de l’explosion de la formation lepéniste, il quitte ce parti pour créer le Mouvement Régionaliste Breton (MRB) éditant Bretagne nouvelle puis l'Idée Bretonne proche d'Alsace d'Abord.
Your translation: Following the explosion of the lepénist formation, he left Centre to form Bretagne nouvelle (New Brittany), later the Mouvement Régionaliste Breton (Breton Regionalist Movement
My translation: I can't figure out the first bit. The words are clear enough but making a coherent sentence in English with those words doesn't seem to be easy. If this were an exam, and in the exam one could use the French Wikipedia as reference material, I'd've gone for "Following the explosion of Le Pen's formation", but that doesn't make any sense. "lepénist" is referring to Jean-Marie Le Pen, the leader of Front National (France) ... "he quit the party in order to found the Mouvement Régionaliste Breton (MRB), later to become Bretagne nouvelle." This is because at fr:Bretagne nouvelle they say "Ce mouvement {Bretagne nouvelle} est devenu par la suite Mouvement Régionaliste Breton". And figuring out this article took up 30 minutes of my time! Still tho, in a year's time I'll've completed by "advanced translation" module in uni, so I'll be a complete expert! --Wonderfool t(c) 00:39, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
uni French
The best thing with uni French is that you get to live in the francosphere for a year. Which country are you from? If its Britain like me, then you get given a grant from Socrates which pays for ur "travel expenses". And in some unis the marks you get in ur year abroad don't count for the final grade after 4 years. I learnt French very slowly in uni - getting 6 hours a week of the language doesn't do much - but if u get to go abroad u learn so so much more quickly. If u got urself a decent dictionary (monolingual and bilingual) then there's not a lot of wrong you can do. Doind WP:TIE helps out too - ppl will eventually come along and check the translations and give you pointers about the style and coherence. --Wonderfool t(c) 09:53, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

Just a tip... you should use Template:Notengnlish or Template:Translate which are the same thing since they allow for two weeks to translate the article before it is put up for deletion. gren グレン 01:33, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
CSD
Heya, could you not mark articles that don't match any of the critera for speedy deletion for speedy deletion? Everything else that you feel needs deleting should be taken to WP:VfD. Thanks. --fvw* 05:34, August 30, 2005 (UTC)
Image copyright
Hi Shanel,
I've just read your message on my talk page, about the image copyright problem (Image:Milena 5.jpg), and I have a doubt.
I've created this file based on this site: http://www.planearium2.de/flash/spstudio.html, and I have no idea about how to tag the file.
If you can help me with this, I'll be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Milena
Image copyright problem
Hi Shanel,
I've just read your message on my talk page, on the image copyright problem about Image:Milena 5.jpg, and I have a doubt. I've created that file from this site, http://www.planearium2.de/flash/spstudio.html. It's a website where you create characters South Park-like.
The problem is that I don't know how to tag this file. If you could help me, I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Milena
like .jpg or .gif?
try special:upload. I'm pretty new to this kinda stuff, too, actually so I may be able to advise you if your comp is similar to mine. you need to have it on your computer first to upload it. when I get an image 0nlin3 it's already in a f0rmat. my comp k1nda automatically gives it a t4g, which matches its format. lemme know if that helps. any mor questions, hit me up.dzznologic2 00:13, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
Image Copyrights
Wow, that's a tricky one. I wasn't sure; it could be a web-screenshot, which would be a fair use tag, or also it could be tagged with PermissionandFairUse or CopyrightFreeUseProvided, depending on what the author of the program wants. However, in the flash file, the author of the web site specifically mentioned that he needed credit for all the drawings created with the program. Sooo, I've sent an email to the address mentioned in the Flash file, and we'll see what comes out of it. Any other questions, you know where to find me :). Cheers, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 02:53, September 13, 2005 (UTC)
- Whoops-make that CopyrightedFreeUseProvided and PermissionAndFairUse. Should have caught those red links. However, I think this might be an interesting case, depending on how the author of the Flash program responds. I think if s/he doesn't give permission for the file to be used on Wikipedia (i.e. non-commerical license only, no fair use, non-GFDL), I'll just have to delete it. web-screenshot might work in a last-case scenario, or right now in the meanwhile. I'll keep you posted. And thanks for the compliment. Wiki-link? ;). Regards, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 22:27, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

Image Copyright
Hi Shanel,
I've seen the reply about screenshots, and, for the moment, I've tagged the image like that. After this, I'll wait for more information!

See you,

Hopefully the last Image Copyright Issue
I recieved permission today from the author of the flash site via email. We can use the image as long as we link back to the website, which I did on the image description page. I also pasted the text of the email, and added a more appropriate image tag. Consider this case closed! Thanks for the work you did on this. Wikimania meeting tommorrow
Hello, and thanks for signing up at Wikimania_2006/Toronto. It has been announced that there will be a half hour meeting on the Wikimania IRC channel tomorrow October 2, at 20:00 UST (4:00 pm EST) to pick the 3 city shortlist. It would be great if you could attend. Also these are our last hours to ensure that our bid at Wikimania_2006/Toronto is as good as it can be, so any improvements to it would also be useful. There are now four cities in the running, so tomorrow one is getting cut. - SimonP 20:49, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Shanel
I noticed that you signed up for the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team recently, and I was wondering what areas you wanted to work in. I have put in a lot of "infrastructure" recently so we can coordinate our efforts, and there are already several Wikiprojects actively looking to find or write quality articles for us. Please let me know what your interests are. By the way, I live only about 45 minutes from Cornwall, ON, I'm in Potsdam, NY. Are you anywhere near Cornwall or Kingston? Thanks, Walkerma 14:37, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me on my talk page. Would you be willing to "take on" the contact with one or two sections of the Wikiprojects list that appeal to you? What about technology? Or even just the France, Canada and Photography Wikiprojects alone (5 in total presently) would be very helpful. I can see that if I personally have to try and contact/monitor a couple of hundred projects it will swallow up a lot of my time! We have a lot of participants in the WP 1.0 project (though they are pretty quiet right now), so I hope we can spread out the work a bit so it just takes a few minutes a week for most people. I have so far contacted 13 Wikiprojects in business and Arts (then two more just now), and so far five have responded (some projects are in fact pretty dead, but you never know till you try). All responses seem to have been favourable, and the British TV group even decided to start a "Collaboration of the Moment" to bring their key articles up to standard. So please let me know what appeals to you. Update, I just got a sixth response while typing this! Thanks again, Walkerma 21:52, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
I appreciate for your offer of help. I still have to finish putting up all of the tables for keeping track of the different projects, but the starting place is here. There are six pages for "Contact Monitoring" pages with the projects, these appear near the top of the page as six links (three are still red). If you click on (say) "Arts" and go to Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/WPArts, you will see a list of tables. There is a title, then it says "Contacted October 1st 2005" or something similar (we have contacted all of the projects in the Entertainment subsection of Arts). Where we have some articles suggested, these appear in the table, which gets expanded as needed.
Pick a project that we haven't contacted. I use a standard title for the posting, "Articles for the Wikipedia 1.0 project" which makes it easy to create direct links. A typical question & response can be seen here. You can see we had browsed their talk page for any good articles, to "personalise" the posting. Go back and edit the Contact Monitoring page to insert your date of contact. Follow up after a few days to show that you are reading their suggestions, then update the table as time allows. If you let me know what areas you are doing I'll make sure I don't duplicate. Thanks, Walkerma 20:33, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Re: User:203.144.9.73
Hi! As the final warning that I gave was back in September, I would treat this as if it were a new user. Most people have dynamic IP addresses which change regularly. In this case I would have given a test2 or test3 message and watched carefully for further vandalism. JeremyA (talk) 00:06, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
Please be careful with speedy tagging
You speedy tagged Skip Bayless without checking the history (apparently). Please be careful and check the history of articles. In this case, it was simple blanking vandalism. I reverted the vandalism, and your speedy tag. Thanks, --Durin 00:02, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
NPOV and Dawn Prince-Hughes
Hi Shanel. I noticed you added the NPOV tag to the article Dawn Prince-Hughes. While I think the article could use some minor NPOV work, I removed the tag. It's only used if there is an active dispute that has not been resolved by discussion. To address your concerns, it will help if you raise specific objections on the article's talk page. sɪzlæk [ +t, +c, +m ] 00:14, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Hello there. I have nominated you for being an administarator. At least, thats what I was trying to do. I've been watching you, and now you're doing far more decent admin stuff than I, hence the nom. --Wonderfool 09:12, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
- This is where it all happens. Woops, I mispelt your name, tant pis
- I've removed your RfA from WP:RFA because you have not yet answered the questions. According to RfA policies, the nominator must accept the nomination and answer the questions on the RfA prior to it being posted at WP:RFA.
- When you re-added it, you put it on the bottom of the list at WP:RFA. I moved it to the top, where it belongs. Best of luck, --Durin 20:35, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
I really don't understand the thinking behind people voting no on your admin thing. Just doesn't make sense to me. Good luck! Tedernst 06:21, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Well done
- Well, you scraped through the nom process. It was touch and go there in the nomination, but you just did enough. Well done to you for overtaking me. --Wonderfool 18:41, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Welcome to vandals
@Shanel: You have recently welcomed User:BoroughJohn. Please be aware that this user name is a sock puppet also using the name Witakone. The user is probably identical with an IP-vandal who has intermittently been active on the page Bundeswehr and its discussion page. I would like to ask you as a member of the Counter Vandalism Unit to keep an eye on this page and these users. Thank you!--KuK 13:59, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- I also have tried to mark the respective user pages as sock puppets, however it looks like I have not properly managed to set the sock puppet box. If you can please check.--KuK 14:07, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Thankyou for your thankyou. Times they are a'gettin' stressful over here and it's nice to know you're appreciated. I have to say it's also good to know what people you welcomed turned into afterwards, it's like having children in a way. Or maybe not. ;-p -- Francs2000 09:12, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
AFD noms
Hi Shanel. You left a comment about a mal-formed AFD nom (for the JCH Robotics nomination)--did I miss something, or did you just click on the link before I was done? I'm used to using the tags, but please let me know if there's a preferred procedure for AFD noms. Thanks. --Alan Au 03:53, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Organizational_chart.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Organizational_chart.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use gfdl to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use fairuse. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Shanel 19:26, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for pointing this out. I have added the copyright tag, do I now remove the November 27, 2005 or does an Admin do that? Thanks again Forbsey 17:29, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi there. I appreciate your watching out for vandalism by Beckjord (talk • contribs), but you really should not revert comments made by him on the talk pages of other users. Also, before reverting his edits, please make sure that his edit really is vandalism. In the case of his comment on my user page that you reverted, that would not be considered vandalism. It was a legitimate question. I am reverting your revert. •DanMS 20:47, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism of my contributions to the Wessely article
Firtly I am not a "new" user. I decided to add commentary to the Wessely article (which is in itself Shanel's attempt to circumvent a locked subject by simply starting a new page at a different address) as I thought a non-destructive non-POV was the best way to show balance in the article.
Apparently this was too much for Shanel who wished his biased, inaccurate hagiography to be undemocratic
If you feel my formatting skills aren't up to it by all means improve the formatting but spurious removal of material without consultation is against Wiki rules. 62.252.152.7 05:29, 15 December 2005 (UTC) i.e. MikeEsp 05:32, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 05:37, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
