Politics of Transnistria takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President of Transnistria is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. Transnistria is a breakaway republic of Moldova. It holds popular elections for a head of state (President) and a legislature
