Ty shows up at the bowling alley, causing Annie to choose between spending time with him or Ethan. Naomi deals with a disappointing evening with her father and destroys a gift from him in a violent rage. Dixon discovers Silver asleep in her car, prompting Kelly to confront their mother Jackie about the repercussions of her alcoholic behavior.

Kelly and Brenda get into a heated conversation about Kelly's involvement with Ryan and how it may affect her son. Dixon is worried about the family's financial situation and talks with Nat at the Peach Pit about a part-time job. Naomi confronts her father's mistress and is shocked when she learns the direction in which her parents' marriage is headed. Annie is still upset with Ty and agrees to a date with Ethan, only to be disappointed by its outcome.

As opening night of "Spring Awakening" nears, Annie and Ty have had a chance to spend a lot of time together and Ty reveals his plans for a one-on-one after-party in his hotel room. Harry catches Annie and Ty kissing backstage and later he and Debbie express their concern for how fast Annie's relationship is progressing. Silver is overwhelmed with stage managing the play so Dixon offers to help backstage, prompting the two to get close. Naomi refuses to accept her parents' divorce and is determined to get them back on track. Brenda, Kelly and Ryan confront Adrianna about an obvious substance abuse problem, giving Annie the chance to take the lead in the play.

Brenda, Kelly, Ryan and Harry confront Adrianna about her growing problems, but Adrianna denies being on drugs. When Debbie is given the opportunity to shoot a fashion show for Nylon magazine, Annie decides to use the fashion show as part of her class assignment on careers. Ryan asks Annie to partner with Adrianna on the assignment, and Annie reluctantly agrees, even though she is still upset with Adrianna over her relationship with Ty. Naomi decides that the fashion show is the perfect place to bring her parents back together, but her plan backfires when her parents have a huge fight. Silver catches the attention of the Debbie's client at the fashion show. Also at the show, when an indie film producer remembers seeing Annie in "Spring Awakening" and offers her an audition, Annie convinces him to include Adrianna. Feeling guilty after Annie's nice gesture, Adrianna admits that she lied about her relationship with Ty. Kelly gets a call from an old friend that makes her question her relationship with Ryan. Finally, Naomi and Ethan come to a crossroads in their relationship.

Annie and Ethan are paired up to take care of a baby as part of a class project and the experience causes them to see each other in a new light. Silver and Dixon continue to get closer and during her half-birthday party at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, she opens him up to an entirely new experience in public. Harry and Debbie are forced to deal with his past when Tracy informs Harry that she hired a private investigator to search for their son, who was given up for adoption many years ago. Naomi is desperate to intervene with Adrianna's downward drug spiral but regrets making one last-minute decision. Ryan is dealing with Kelly's departure and decides to try online dating in an effort to hide his true feelings about her absence.

Annie prepares for her driver's test and works out a plan with Ethan so they can attend the Homecoming dance without officially making it a date. Adrianna confesses about her drug use, effectively clearing Naomi's name, and is forced to check into rehab for her addiction. With no one left to turn to, Adrianna finds Navid by her side, determined to help her through her pain. At the dance, Ryan catches Kimberly buying drugs from a student but is even more surprised to learn that she is an undercover cop. After a conversation with Tabitha, Debbie confronts Tracy about her inappropriate behavior towards Harry, and despite her root canal pain, Silver and Dixon dance the night away.

Harry and Debbie inform Annie and Dixon about Harry's son that was given up for adoption nearly 22 years ago. While Dixon doesn't seem bothered by the information, Annie releases her frustration and anger at a sleepover with Naomi, Silver and Adrianna. The sleepover quickly turns into a house party with guys and drinking games. Meanwhile, Annie and Ethan decide to hide their relationship from their friends and Dixon opens up to Silver about his latest family issues. Adrianna and Navid continue to get close until she misunderstands his intentions. Now that Ryan is in on Kimberly's secret, the two can no longer control their desire for each other but are oblivious when a student observes their actions.

Upon seeing Annie and Ethan kissing, Naomi decides to take matters into her own hands to get back at Annie for her deceit. Kelly returns from her trip to visit Dylan and confronts Ryan about the allegations. Harry and Debbie throw a party for Annie's sixteenth birthday, and everyone except Naomi is surprised when someone from Annie's past shows up. Annie and Naomi get into a screaming argument about their alleged backstabbing. After having dinner with Navid and his family, Adrianna learns that Navid is a virgin.

Still in shock from the surprise arrival of their half-brother, Sean, Annie and Naomi put their arguing aside long enough to process the news. Naomi broadens her friendship base and begins hanging out with a new group of girls but is confronted by Annie in a lunch-room showdown. Silver is threatened by Christina, a cheerleader for the lacrosse team, when she shows too much interest in Dixon. Meanwhile, Dixon is dealing with the arrival of Sean and how it will potentially affect his family.

Brenda and Kelly stand by Adrianna's side and Brenda reveals a secret she has been hiding from Kelly. Dixon and Christina's friendship continues to grow when she invites him over to her house, an invitation he hides from Silver.

Adrianna opens up to Naomi about her secret and they immediately become friends again but Navid isn't quite sure how to handle the news. Silver and Dixon hit the beach for a day in the sun and decide to make a sand castle but don't anticipate the tsunami headed their way when Dixon reveals three little words.

Adrianna comes to terms with her decision about her baby and leans on Naomi and Kelly for support while also revealing the baby's daddy. Ryan returns to West Bev with a new perspective and has an unpleasant encounter with Silver and Kelly. Dixon turns to Debbie for some advice to help his relationship with Silver.

Adrianna reveals her pregnancy to the baby's father and is shocked by his parents' handling of the situation. Annie and Ethan are still shaken from his accident but their relationship becomes strained when he starts spending a lot of time with Rhonda. Silver confronts Dixon and tells him the words he has been longing to hear.

Naomi, comfortable with her new living situation, is immediately taken by Liam, a hot bartender at her hotel. Sparks begin to fly between the two but Naomi is confused by the mystery that surrounds Liam. Silver gets extremely upset when her surprise Valentine's Day dinner for Dixon doesn't go as planned, but the two find a way to make the date a moment to remember. Annie becomes increasingly jealous of Ethan and Rhonda's close connection and takes advantage of information about Rhonda's past in order to benefit herself, causing Ethan to confront her about her terrible actions. Adrianna doesn't have a date for the dance and decides to spend the night loading up on chocolate, until she hears a surprise knock on her door.

In an attempt to get close to Liam, Naomi offers to be his math tutor, but she gets more than she bargains for when he takes her out for a wild night. Silver takes a class assignment a little too far when she creates a video that documents her love for Dixon. When Silver screens the video for her fellow students, everyone, including Ryan, is shocked when they see Dixon and Silver in an intimate situation. Upon seeing the reaction of everyone around her, Silver blames Ryan for the situation. Ethan and Annie's relationship remains rocky but more problems arise when Adrianna reveals that Rhonda and Ethan shared a kiss at the dance. Harry and Debbie are surprised to learn that Annie quit the school play in order to spend more time with Ethan.

On a very special 90210, Ryan attempts to calm Silver down after reactions to her video, but she disappears before he can help. Kelly and Ryan search the streets and show up at Jackie's home looking for Silver, but the visit proves pointless when harsh words are exchanged. Adrianna is unsure how to care for a child but when she and Navid offer to babysit for Kelly, but the two prove to be better at the situation than they thought. Kelly and her friends fear the worst and search for her, not knowing where she is or what is causing her emotional behavior.

Kelly and Silver are surprised when Donna shows up at their door, straight off a plane from Japan. Naomi joins the Habitat build after learning that Liam is also attending, but is clearly out of her comfort zone. While Kelly and Donna are dining on sushi, Diablo Cody convinces Donna to design a dress for her for a red carpet event.

Naomi and Annie mend their broken friendship but when a scandal involving Naomi's dad erupts, Naomi's trust in Annie disappears. As Adrianna nears her due date, she and Navid interview prospective adoptive parents.

Now that Naomi's big sister, Jen is back in town, the two decide to live together and turn to their scandalous father to release Naomi's trust fund in order to support their wild spending habits. Ryan and Jen bump into each other at the Peach Pit and get wrapped up in a conversation of lies before deciding to have dinner together.

Meanwhile, Liam continues to count down the moments until Annie shows her true colors, but to prove him wrong, she accepts theater-geek Charlie's invitation to the dance. Kelly attempts to warn Ryan about Jen's devious personality, which he interprets as Kelly's jealousy. Navid confronts Ty during a fight about abandoning his soon-to-be child with Adrianna, but rushes to Adrianna's side when she goes into labor. Dixon is surprised to learn he's nominated for Prom King and Silver is even more surprised when she has the opportunity to speak her mind in front of her peers after she wins the title of Prom Queen.

Adrianna and Navid spend their prom night in the delivery room and Brenda shows up to offer support. Naomi and Liam have revealed their honest feelings for each other and she decides to host an after-prom party at her new house, much to Jen's disapproval. Showing up late, Naomi searches for Liam but is speechless when she finds him finishing up some business in her bedroom. A furious Naomi confronts and accuses Annie of sleeping with Liam, causing Annie to finally snap at Naomi and all the party-goers before leaving the party in a rage and doing something that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Dixon and Ethan get into a fight when Dixon accuses Ethan of having feelings for Silver. Harry and Debbie chaperone the after-prom party but leave early to lend their support to Adrianna at the hospital, along with Kelly.

For the remainder of the summer, everyone hangs out at the Beverly Hills Beach Club, where Naomi and Silver meet Teddy Montgomery, a pro-tennis player and the son of a famous movie star. Adrianna is surprised to see her childhood boyfriend, whom happens to be Teddy, and Navid organizes a romantic evening with Adrianna, with hopes of finally losing his virginity. Dixon and Silver try to make their relationship work but a text message may force Dixon to ends things once and for all.

Adrianna helps Navid, now in charge of The Blaze News, land an interview with Teddy, but she is shocked with Navid’s brutish interviewing tactics. Elsewhere, Ryan continues to pursue Jen, who continues to play hard-to-get.

Silver continues to get over Dixon while Adrianna and Navid deal with Teddy’s presence in their life. Liam, fed up with the lies between Naomi and Annie, retreats to his garage to work on a mysterious project. The gang joins Teddy on his father’s yacht for an afternoon of ocean-filled drama.

Navid continues to run the Blaze News and assigns Silver and Gia to interview Jasper for a news piece about his uncle. Things get steamy when Adrianna confides in Teddy, resulting in Adrianna and Navid finally spending the night together. Liam finally finds a way to get revenge on Jen and reveal the truth to Naomi about their night together at prom by threatning to reveal news about Jen's estranged husband in France. But the crafty Jen has other plans.

Meanwhile, Navid and Adrianna go on a double date with Teddy and his girlfriend, but Adrianna’s growing feelings towards Teddy make for an awkward situation. Silver accompanies Adrianna to an AA meeting and surprisingly bumps into her mom, Jackie, who tells Silver she would like to re-establish their relationship. An angry Silver rejects her mother, but her world is turned upside down when Adrianna reveals shocking news about Jackie.

Meanwhile, Naomi continues her relationship with Richard, but when she and Jamie share an intimate conversation, her plans to schmooze with the dean of CU come to a screeching halt. Dixon realizes he and Sasha are in two different places in their life and decides to end their relationship, but she ends up delivering life-changing news. Tensions rise between Debbie and Harry when she walks in on Harry and Kelly in his office. Elsewhere, Annie and Jasper’s relationship is put to the test when he attempts to convince her to steal a car while shooting a scene for his student film. Also, Liam butts heads with the newest member of the surf team, tomboy Ivy Sullivan.

Worried that Adrianna will relapse, Naomi and Silver enlist Navid’s assistance, but he does not want anything to do with his former girlfriend. Meanwhile, Dixon reveals his situation with Sasha to Debbie and Harry, prompting Debbie to do some investigating. Jen and Ryan meet up with Pharrell Williams to watch a performance of N.E.R.D. also appearing at the Edison theater. When Jen and Liam run into each other at the Edison, the pretend not to know each other. But the wicked Jen tells Ryan a concohed story about Liam sexually harassing her in order to turn Ryan against him. The mystery of what Liam is building inside his garage, and being very secretive about it to his friends, further deepens.

Annie and Jasper profess their love for each other and decide to take their relationship to the next level. After getting into a fight on the beach, Liam confides in Dixon, Teddy, and Ivy about Naomi's sister Jen trying to destroy his life, and he devises a plan to seek revenge on the imp.

Although she is conflicted about whether or not she can forgive her mother for all the life-long pain and abuse she has caused, Kelly continues to support Silver as she deals with Jackie’s declining health. Meanwhile, Navid confronts Adrianna about her drug use, but this time Adrianna pushes Navid away in retaliation for turning his back on her. Harry and Debbie are surprised when Annie informs them she would like to invite Jasper over for dinner at their house. Dixon, still alienated and upset with his entire foster family, especially Debbie over her meddeling in the Sasha situation, declines to join them. Dixon, Ivy, and Navid devise a plan for Liam to tell Naomi the truth about Jen's true nature despite the real posiblity that Naomi will never belive them, even with the evidence they have. Elsewhere, Ryan and Jen’s rocky relationship is taken to an entirely new level when he convinces her to go on a weekend camping trip. Also, Naomi and Jamie’s make out session is interrupted by Richard and his mother, forcing Naomi to come clean about her plans to get accepted into CU.
