Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
Once you have decided on the name you would like:
  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Bureaucrat note: Rashack does not seem to have an SUL open for the name. If you're the cs.wiki and the sv.wiki user, I would recommend you create an SUL as the best course of action. bibliomaniac15 21:31, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Austin.mp → Michael Patrick Austin

Curiousbyte → Curiousbyte

    •  Bureaucrat note: The requested username is the same as your current name, aside from the first letter being in lowercase. Due to technical limitations, usernames must start with an uppercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference. -- Avi (talk) 06:00, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jobey → CFKsonOFsrednas

Clerk note: Can you please select a user name not associated with KFC. Spelling some words backwards as you did with "CFK" & "srednas" is not really what has been suggested. Please see WP:SPAMNAME for an explanation on use of corporate names and trademarks/servicemarks and why they are not accepted as a username. delirious & lostTALK 01:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crchambers89 → NEW

Clerk note: You'll have to actually let us know what your college account name is, if you wish to be renamed to match. AJCham 12:35, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soilassociation → Jack Hunter

Cheers! Soilassociation (talk) 11:27, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. --AJCham 12:31, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done, requesting user blocked. (Does the bot listen to non-crat {{notdone}}'s?) –Juliancolton | Talk 23:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't differentiate, but I think it's usually best form to wait for a bureaucrat to use the template. Waiting a bit longer is no trouble and people might question a result if a non-bureaucrat is dispensing it. In this case, it's clear that it's a notdone, but form is form. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 23:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Melbourne Library Service → Melbourne Library Service (Tony, Website Librarian)

Melbourne Library Service (talk) 03:39, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The new name still violates the same policy - it should represent an individual as a person, not as a representative of an organisation. Please choose another, without reference to your employer or job title. Please also read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations. AJCham 04:11, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Please find a different new name. Kingturtle (talk) 05:37, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Steve Quinn) and (Ti-30X) → Ti-30X

In addition, I don't get a message when someone leaves an entry on my talk page anymore.
So, here is what I would like to do. Since the name change never made it all the way through, just keep me as Ti-30X for now and I can leave the new name on my user page. It works out the same, I think. Please restore all the edits attributed to me. This would include the edits since the request, and edits under Steve Quinn. I was changed to Steve Quinn for a short time, then my edits suddenly started appearing under Ti-30X once again. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my talk page, or here.
As part of the cause of this problem appears to be me editing while the change takes place, then I will stop editng for the next couple of hours, to allow this to take place. Thanks for your help. Steve Quinn (formerly Ti-30X) (talk) 23:17, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't read User:Anonymous Dissident's talk page before I entered this. However, to avoid confusion - above is what I have decided to do. Apologies to Anonymous Dissident, but I didn't know what was happening. I know many of us here get busy at Wikipedia and in our real lives, so there is no fault and no blame. Steve Quinn (formerly Ti-30X) (talk) 23:28, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I am currently User: Steve Quinn, as previously requested, so let's all leave it at that. Sorry to all of you who volunteer here, for the confusion. User:Anonymous Dissident straightened it out. Maybe someone can leave a note saying problem resolved, or whatever is appropriate, so an accidental name change doesn't take place. Thanks Steve Quinn (talk) 03:00, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
