Le Voyou, also known as The Crook, is a highly stylized French action movie about a criminal, known as "Simon the Swiss", and his largest heist. Directed by Claude Lelouch, the film makes use of a circular narrative littered with untruths to convey the elusive nature of the title character. Other cinematic techniques, including flashbacks, musical montage, a mixture of film editing styles, misaligned sound mixing, and a movie within the movie, all work together to further heighten the mood of the chase.
The film won the David di Donatello for Best Foreign Direction in 1971.
