The Red Hot Chili Peppers things on my talk page are newsletters from the Red Hot Chili Peppers Wikiproject. Unfortunately the project is inactive at the moment, but don't let that stop you from editing Red Hot Chili Peppers-related articles!
The barnstars are awards the users receive for "[...]hard work and due diligence[...]" See: Wikipedia:Barnstars. In other word, when a user sees the good hard work another user has done, it is costum to to reward that user. I have yet to receive one...
If you get the Wikipedia community's approval to become an administrator, you get a few tools normal users don't have. Like the ability to delete/undelete articles, protect articles from being changed, block disruptive users and so on. You can read more about it here: Wikipedia:Administrators/Tools.
