UFC 110 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Sunday February 21, 2010 in Sydney, Australia at the Acer Arena. The event will mark the UFC's first trip to Australia, and will be taking place on a Sunday
Background
A UFC Interim Heavyweight Title fight between Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez was being targetted for this card, but is not yet signed for as Carwin's wife is due to give birth just days before this event.[1] In addition, a potential co-main event between Keith Jardine and Rich Franklin is being discussed, but not yet finalised.[2]
Another potential main card event is being discussed between George Sotiropoulos and Joe Stevenson. Bout agrrements have been sent, but at this time not finalised. [3]
According to UFC President Dana White, the long-rumoured featured bout of Wanderlei Silva and Yoshihiro Akiyama might not be on tap for the event, instead having a fight between Silva and Michael Bisping.[4] Wanderlei Silva has now confirmed Bisping as his opponent.[5]
A bout between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen which was expected to take place on this card has been moved up to UFC 109.[6]
A bout between Heavyweight Contenders Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira that was originally scheduled for UFC 108 before Nogueira pulled out due to a staph infection is now being targeted as the card's main event. [7]
A bout between Joe Stevenson and George Sotiropoulos is also in the works, but not yet signed for.[8]
