• Andy Anderson (1951-) (Rock) (The Cure)
• Animal (197?-) is the Muppet drummer for Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the band for The Muppet Show. Animal is usually chained to the drum set, as his musical outbursts are extremely violent. He may have been "inspired" by the antics of Keith Moon of The Who.
• Carmine Appice (1946-) (Vanilla Fudge) Also wrote Realistic Rock, the first book about rock drumming that was actually written by a rock drummer.
• Vinny Appice (Rock) (Black Sabbath) Younger brother of Carmine Appice.
• Yukihiro Awaji (from L'arc-en-Ciel)
• Mihailo Arnaut - TABA (Rock) Visoki Napon (eng. High Voltage). Young rock drummer from Serbia, Belgrade. Started his career in band Visoki Napon (eng. High Voltage) which plays good old rock 'n' roll. Also, cooperated with various Belgrade bands.

• Paul Barbarin (c.1900-1969) (Jazz) One of the very best of the pre-Big Band era jazz drummers. A member of the Barbarin family, a dynasty in New Orleans jazz.

• Ed Blackwell (1929-1992) First came to national attention as the drummer with Ornette Coleman's quartet, around 1960. Known as one of the great innovators of the free jazz of the 1960s, fusing New Orleans and African rhythms with bebop.

• John Bonham (1948-1980) (Rock) (Led Zeppelin) Recognised as one of the most influential and loudest of all drummers who was able to sustain an electric tension throughout his playing

• Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa, Missing Persons) rose to the challenge of Frank Xappa who wrote a complicated percussion piece for him, known as "The Black Page" due to the density of the score. The best version of this is found on Frank Zappa's "Live in New York" album. Bozzio was also well known for his huge kit and his ability to play several drum and effects pedals simultaneously
• Bill Bruford (1948-) (Yes, King Crimson, Bruford, Bruford's Earthworks) One of the more successful British drummers to have emerged from the progressive rock years, drawing widely from African and Latin American rhythms

• Phil Collins (1951-) (Rock) (Genesis) very influenced by jazz, which can be heard clearly in his work with Brand X. However, it is for his unassuming sensitive treatment of the musical complexities of Genesis that he will be best remembered. In more recent years, Collins has tended to put the complex drumming work to one side in pursuit of lounge-style jazz singing and easily accessible popular musical forms.
