TX-2000 series
Tsukuba Express 2000 series

The TX-2000 series (TX-2000系) is an EMU which operates on the Tsukuba Express. A total of 120 cars were purchased.

The first 6-car prototype was built in March 2003, and subsequently between January 2004 and July 2004, 15 more sets were manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd. An order of 4 additional trainsets was made in 2008 to cope with the line's increased demand.

The train is capable of operating in both DC and AC modes, and is therefore capable of running the full length of the Tsukuba Express. Its DC-only counterpart, the TX-1000 series, can only operate on the Akihabara – Moriya section of the line. The middle two cars feature transverse seating bays for passengers on longer journeys.
