"Greatest Day"
Song

"Greatest Day" is a song by British group Take That from their album, The Circus. It was played at my Dads wedding aswell :)

Song information

"Greatest Day" was written by Take That themselves and was produced by John Shanks. The song was written and recorded at Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill and was mixed in Los Angeles at the Jim Henson Studios.[1]

Take That performed the song at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 on 6 November, 2008, the first pan-European live performance by the band,[2] preceding the single's release on 24 November, 2008.[3] The band also performed the song live at Children in Need 2008 on the BBC on November 14, 2008, before donating £250,000 to the charity.[4] The song moves in 104 BPM and has a key signature of C sharp major.

The song has sold 292,305 copies in the UK so far as stated by the Official UK Charts Company.

Brit Awards 2009 Criticism

Take That performed 'Greatest Day' at the 2009 Brit Awards.[5] Members of the press have criticised Take That for lip-syncing the song. The controversy has been further publicised, due to perceived hypocrisy, that members of Take That accused Britney Spears of 'losing her touch and miming too much'.[6] Whilst Britney had a highly choreographed routine, Take That had none, this lead to a questioning of why they had lip-synced.

Chart performance

'Greatest Day' debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart upon its release, and became the band's 11th number-one single.[7][8][9] It stayed at the top spot for one week before being succeeded by Leona Lewis.[10] In Ireland, the single peaked at number two for two weeks.[11]

Music video

The video for "Greatest Day" was filmed on location in Los Angeles on top of a 60 storey building in the downtown area. It was directed by Meiert Avis, who previously shot videos for U2, Damien Rice, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.[1] The band shot the video while visiting producer John Shanks in the city who was mixing the album.[12]

The video premiered on AOL on October 22, 2008.[13]
