The Nikon Coolpix P90 was launced by Nikon in March 2009 as an improved version of the Nikon Coolpix P80. It is a 12 mega pixel CCD digital camera with a fixed 24× Zoom Nikkor ED glass lens giving more than twelve times image magnification fully extended. An in-camera feature compensates for lens pincushion- and barrel distortion in the image. The VR in this case refers to the vibration reduction image sensor shift system. The camera has a three-inch LCD display that may be folded 45 degrees downward and 90 degrees upward to facilitate shooting above-the-head or low-to-the ground images as well as traditional waist level viewing. The automatic features with respect to white balance is not optimal, especially in mixed-light situations comprising incandescent and fluorescent light sources, but the manual features gives satisfactory results for the experienced photographer. Shooting at the extreme telephoto lens setting is virtually impossible without a very steady camera, preferably solidly placed on a tripod or tabletop; however in doing so the camera replaces equipment several times its cost with respect to reach, yet delivering similar image quality. Cameras like this, and those from any of the reputable makers, show the way into the future, amalgamating optics and electronics into a compact, extremely cost-effective instrument, capable of delivering high image quality.[1]

Most of the features otherwise is carried over from the P80 model.
