Police of the Czech Republic (PČR) was established by the act 283/1991 Sb.[1] as a new law enforcement agency in the Czech Republic (at that time called Czech and Slovak Federal Republic). PČR is the main investigative body of the Ministry of Interior. Most towns and some villages have its own municipal police, which supervises public order and road safety; however municipal police have jurisdiction only over misdemeanours and in cases of crimes may serve only supportive role for the state police. Criminal cases are investigated by state police and oversought by public prosecutors, who can only bring charges in criminal proceedings. Some crimes (such as terrorism) are being solved in co-operation with intelligence agencies, like BIS or ÚZSI.

PČR's headquarters is located in Prague.

Transportation

Today, most common types include models from Škoda: Škoda Felicia Combi, Škoda Fabia Combi, and Škoda Octavia. Older Felicias and Fabias are being replaced with Škoda Octavia 1.6 (75kW) and 1.8 (118 kW) in new silver-blue design (while old have white-green).

The road police uses marked and unmarked Škoda Octavia RS 2.0 (147kW), Ford Mondeo ST220 3.0 (166 kW), unmarked VW Passat VR6 3.6 (221 kW) for pursuing speeders, Yamaha motorbikes (600 and 1300 ccm) and VW Transporter 3.2 (173 kW) fitted as mobile offices for investigation of road accidents.
