Joseph Paul Schmidt (born January 18, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) was a professional football player for the Detroit Lions. He played linebacker, from 1953 through 1965, and then became the Head Coach from 1967 through 1972. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1973.
