The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte is a 36,500 sq. ft. museum space housing "one of the South's most important 20th century European collections."[1] The modern art collection is part of the new Wells Fargo Cultural Campus. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art opened to the public on January 2, 2010 with Mayor Anthony Foxx of Charlotte and Andreas Betchler attending.
About the Museum
The museum was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta who also designed the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The new museum will feature several thousand pieces from the Bechtler family collection.
