Biography

Raja Muhammad Basharat is a Pakistani politician from the city of Rawalpindi. He is the son of former member of provincial assembly late Raja Lal Khan. He was been a member and also chairman of district council of rawalpindi. He has also been in charge of the law ministry of punjab for two consecutive terms and member of the provincial assembly of punjab for four terms in a row. He lives at his home at Dhamial road in Rawalpindi.

Education and Law Career

He graduated from the University of the Punjab with a LLB degree in 1976. He was a practicing lawyer until he entered grass-roots level politics starting from the district council.

Political Career

He was elected as chairman of the district council in 1979 and served until 1987. Then he remained member of the district council from 1987 to 1990. In 1990 he took part in the general elections and was elected as a member of the provincial assembly of Punjab. Then he was elected for another term in 1993. In 1996, after wining yet another election, he was nominated for the all-important Ministry of Law. Then, in 2003, after the exile of the party leader Nawaz Sharif he bacame a part of the remodeled Pakistan Muslim League along with a majority of other political leaders. After the 2003 general elections he was appointed as the special adviser to the Chief Minister of Punjab before becoming the Senior Minister for the second time after wining the by-elections from Gujrat. Along with the Law ministry this time he was also given the portfolio of Local Government, Community Development and Parliamentary Affairs & Public Prosecution. [1]
