Joseph Küffner (Kueffner) (March 31, 1776 Würzburg – September 9, 1856 Würzburg)[1][2] was a German musician and composer.

Life

He was a violinist with the Würzburg court orchestra[3][4], and was later, when Würzburg became part of Bavaria (1802), assigned to take charge of military music. At this point he became bandmaster with a Bavarian Army regiment[3][5].

Music

A quintet of Küffner's for clarinet and strings was once attributed to Carl Maria von Weber[2], and is still recorded in collections of Weber's music.[6]. He composed seven symphonies among other works. His output also contains a substantial quantity of music for classical guitar (some of it still published as of 2008 and some newly reprinted).
