Nash Family

Russell family

Josie caused quite a stir when she arrived in 2004 because of her resemblence to the demonic, but deceased Angie Russell, who turned out to be her cousin.

Smith family

Sutherland family

The elder of twins, Kirsty was always more outgoing and confident than "twin sister" Jade. She had a rebellious attitude and had a habit of putting herself before everyone else. She went of the rails and experimented with dropping out of school, taking drugs and alienating everyone around her, including Jade and her older sister, Dani. Luckily she calmed down but still remained a constant headache to her parents. She dated local boy Seb Miller before cheating on him with Kane Phillips. This controversial relationship tore her family apart, and led to her father Rhys disowning her and her sister Dani feeling betrayed.
Firsty was determined to get her own way, and rather than attend her father's wedding, she and Kane eloped and got married themselves. Rhys was furious that he was now related to the man that raped Dani, but Kirsty remained defiant. Her selfishness put a strain on her relationship with her family especially when she lied about being pregnant in order to stop her dad anulling the marriage. She fell preganant for real but lost the baby and needed a kidney transplant. The family wanted her real long lost twin Laura to donate but she refused as she barely knew Kirsty. Shelley eventually gave her kidney to her daughter. The Sutherlands reluctantly accepted Kane, and Kirsty fell pregnant again. She and Kane fled the Bay in 2005 after he was found guilty of armed robbery.
Dani was the eldest of the Sutherland sisters, and probably the fiestiest of the three teenage girls. She had a good relationship with both her parents, but always felt they they took advantage of her good nature expecting her to look after the business, and her sisters Kirsty and Jade when they were busy at work. She was a city girl through and through and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to quiet little Summer Bay in 2000.
A quiet life she didn't get. Her life faced one trauma after another in the four years she lived in the Bay. She was raped by Kane Phillips, stalked by not one but two deranged psychos in the form of Felix Walters and Sarah Lewis, had a nervous breakdown and was wrongly imprisoned for accidently running over her rapist. Dani was very popular, especially where boys were concerned. From the moment she arrived at the Caravan Park she had boys chasing her all the time. Her first true love was Will Smith. Will and Dani fell in love but were ripped apart by Will's scheming ex Gypsy Nash who he had gotten pregnant. Dani was heartbroken, and, despite Will insisting he still loved her, she sacrificed her own happiness so he could be a father.
She soon fell for rich lifeguard Josh West, who fell in love with her almost instantly. But his growing ambitions and obsession with money soon made her realise he was not her Mr. Right. Then came a knight in shing armour in the shape of Scott Hunter. An older man who worshipped her, and even helped her forgive her sister Kirsty's betrayal of marrying her rapist Kane, seemed perfect. Dani, a budding writer, was an independent woman so when the chance of a lifetime came her way she grabbed it, but Scott was unhappy and feared he would lose her to handsome publisher Stafford McRae. His insecurities led him to accuse her of having an affair with Stafford. Dani was disgusted by Scott's lack of trust and lack of ambitions in life other than getting married and having kids as soon as possible, so ended there engagement and walked out on him and life in Summer Bay for good in 2004.
Jade was brought up as Kirsty's twin sister and Dani's younger sister. She suffered from low self esteem as she didn't think she was as pretty as Dani or as talented as Kirsty. She developed bullimia as a result. She was soon happy again in a relationship with Nick Smith, who was just as devoted to her as she was to him. They broke up after Angie Russell manipulated him and he was seen cheating on her on a reality TV show.
Nick left the Bay in 2003 after saying an emotional farewell to Jade, and she moved on with Seb Miller. The bombshell that she and Kirsty's real twin, Laura DeGroot, were accidently swapped at birth shattered her and sent her off the rails. Her horrible ex, Duncan Stewart, drove a car high on drugs with Jade and Seb in over a cliff. The Sutherlands feared Jade was dead. She was washed up some days later.
When Seb decided to move to the city after being disabled in the accident, to live with his grandad Donald Fisher, Jade decide to go with him as she had no family and had been suspended from school. The Sutherlands showed she still had her family if she wanted them, and feeling happier than she had in months she said goodbye to her sisters Dani and Kirsty and left in 2004 for a fresh start in the City.
Rhys Sutherland's nephew, Max, was dumped on his family in 2002 when his dad Pete's gambling debts spiralled out of control and he went on the run. Max was a cheeky kid, and proved to be like the son Rhys never had. He formed a close bond with Colleen Smart and got on well with his aunt, Shelley and cousins, Dani, Kirsty, and Jade. He was also good at money making scams, which he had learn't from his father and often got him into trouble. The most serious when he was threatened with legal action over a book he wrote and got published as the material had been stolen off the internet.
He also had his first love in Summer Bay. Despite playing off Tamara and Caitlin against each other he was dumped by both. He later fell for terminally ill Eloise but she died and left Max so heartbroken he created a shrine to her in an old mineshaft. This collapsed in on most of the Sutherland's and it was a race against time to save them. Luckily they al survived. When Rhys and his new wife Beth Hunter split up Max decided he wanted to go to boarding school, and had a farewell party thrown for him by his friends and family before leaving for good in 2004.
Rhys arrived as the new caravan park owner with wife Shelley, and teenage daughters Dani, Kirsty and Jade in tow. His family suffered many traumas over the years ranging from his daughter Dani being raped and having a nervous breakdown before being wrongly imprisoned, his marriage being destroyed by Angie Russell, his other daughter Kirsty's betrayal by marrying Dani's rapist and the discovery that Jade was not his or Shelley's actual daughter and had been swapped at birth with their real daughter. These trauma's pushed him apart from his second wife Beth Hunter and back to Shelley. Rhys left the Bay to be with her after saying an emotional goodbye to his daughters in 2004.
A counsellor and mother to three pretty daughters was a tough job, but Shelley remained the strong reliable one when her husband, Rhys, would fly off the handle, and enjoyed a good relationship with her daughters Dani, Kirsty, and Jade and nephew Max. She left Rhys in 2002 after discovering he had cheated on her in the past with unhinged Angie Russell. She returned for further stints in the show when he family was in trouble, and left for good in 2004 when Rhys broke up with his second wife Beth Hunter to be with her again.

Others

  • Katherine "Kit" Hunter (Amy Mizzi, 2003-2004) Episodes: 3495-3670; 3719-3737; 3817-3878.
The elder daughter of Beth Hunter, Kit first appeared as a regular character in 2003 in episode 3495 as an alcoholic young woman seeking help at the drop-in centre. She met Noah Lawson and he was one of the people who helped her deal with her drinking problems, while she fell in love with him. But nothing really developed and in early 2004, she left Summer Bay to go to university. Although Kit was only on the show for a year, she became somewhat of a fan favorite with viewers. In so, Kit has returned to Summer Bay, the soap opera's fictional town, a number of times since and has had a romantic relationship with Kim Hyde. She'll be making a 7-week return in the 2006 season.
