What's that old church called, east of Strathcona ,that i think was founded as a Russian or Greek church, and is now if I'm not mistaken a black-community church, by name Abyssinian or Ethiopian I think? Not the one on Kingsway, which is connected to the Ethiopian community......also mention of the large First Nations population, not just in the Downtown Eastside but also around Commercial/Broadway, should be made - but probably not very citable due to the aforementioned difficulties with StatsCan's choice of offered-info...the Friendship/native youth centre on Hastings near Commercial should certainly be mentioned though, if not already....[[User:Skookum1|Skookum1]] ([[User talk:Skookum1|talk]]) 18:41, 3 May 2009 (UTC) |

Map
Thanks to Buchanan-Hermit for developing the map. Hu Gadarn 03:56, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. Although I do see room for improvement, it will do for the time being, I hope. :) -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 06:07, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
May need a revision. While the Sunset neighbourhood is not marked red, it is included in the list of East Side neighbourhoods. --Jordo ex (talk) 07:49, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Picture on Perry St
I don't think the picture "Perry St just north of Kingsway" adds much to the article. If this section needs a pic then I propose it be of something either significant (e.g. a temple, a park) or at least clearly showing something. This image doesn't seem to "say" much. Thoughts? Please discuss your removal of large amount of information
Good day. I see that one or more people have removed large amounts of information from the history of East Van section. Can you explain why? This was not information obbled from the History of Vancouver section. I spent considerable time using many different sources to develop this history. The purpose was meant to highlight the number, diversity and significance of events that occured in areas of the city not traditionally featured (e.g. not Kerrisdale). I have not simply reverted the edit because I want to assume good faith and I trust that there may be an explanation that is not currently clear to me. I look forward to your reply. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 06:30, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
No mention of Grandview-Woodland
In the "Neighbourhoods, demographics and languages" section, the paragraph starts "The City of Vancouver identifies seven communities entirely in the East Vancouver area" but then only six are mentioned: Kensington-Cedar Cottage, Hastings-Sunrise, Killarney, Renfrew-Collingwood, Strathcona and Victoria-Fraserview. I checked the map, and Grandview-Woodland is the missing one. I don't really know my way around the editing process so I'd rather not touch anything - can anyone fix this? NOHA?
Besides the single reference I was able to pull up on Google (scoutmagazine.ca) of some guy mentioning his neighbourhood near Nanaimo St and saying "let's call it NOHA" I have been unable to find any other evidence that the area North of Hastings is referred to as "NOHA." I have lived in East Van for over 15 years and have never heard it referred to as such by anybody...."hipster" youth, elders, whoever. It reminds me of an article years ago in a Seattle paper that referred to Main and Hastings as "Pain and Wastings" and no one had a clue what the writer was talking about. I'm going to delete the whole paragraph unless some more evidence is posted... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.49.54.149 (talk) 01:48, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- I agree; synth-names for Vancouver neighbourhoods are all the vogue, e.g. "the Main" (which always in the old days meant Boul St-Laurent in Montreal), "the Drive", "MacFourth" etc....the area in question was always called, in my day, if anythng "the port" or "near the port". "NOHA" ounds to me somebody moving in from TO to Nanaimo & Dundas who needed to make it sound like they were living somewhere trendy.....Skookum1 (talk) 18:30, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
community identity section
Just to note about the prejudice against the EAst Side in civic politics, there should be mention of the battles over teh ward system and how most council members come from the West Side.Skookum1 (talk) 18:30, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
