Gloria De Piero, (born 21 December 1972, Bradford, West Yorkshire) is a British journalist and presenter best known for her work with for GMTV.

Early life

Gloria was born in Bradford of Italian descent. She attended the Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College on Westgate Hill Street (A650) in south-east Bradford from 1987-91. She did her A levels at Bradford and Ilkley College, where she was the Student Union President.

Student Union President

She was educated at the University of Central England from 1991 (called Birmingham City University since 2007), where she was the President of the Student Union from 1994-5. She completed a master's degree in London.

Career

Journalism

She began her journalistic career as a researcher on Jonathan Dimbleby's TV programme in 1997. She then moved to the BBC where she worked at On the Record, The Politics Show and BBC Radio 4's Westminster Hour, where she produced and reported on the Palace of Westminster.

From 2003 to February 2010 she was political correspondent and a relief newsreader for GMTV.[1]

Gloria is also an occasional presenter on the Weekend Breakfast and Weekend News programmes on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Since 16 November 2009, Gloria has acted as a relief presenter on the Five magazine show Live from Studio Five, in the absence of presenters Kate Walsh and Melinda Messenger.

Politics

In February 2010 she resigned from GMTV in order to seek selection as the Labour Party's candidate for the Ashfield constituency in the 2010 General Election, a seat currently represented by the former Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon. She is thought likely to make it onto the all-women shortlist for the seat, at which point local party members will vote for their preferred candidate. According to the Daily Mail, her candidacy has the support of leading national party figures, but some local activists have criticised what one of them described as a bid to "parachute someone in from outside the area".[2]

Personal life

In 2008 she was voted the 85th sexiest woman in the world in the FHM readers' poll. Her partner is the Observer's media correspondent, James Robinson.
