Sapulpa is a city located in Creek County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 19,166. It is the county seat of Creek County6.

Sapulpa is located at 36°0'13" North, 96°6'17" West (36.003536, -96.104822)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 48.3 km² (18.7 mi²). 48.3 km² (18.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.11% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 19,166 people, 7,430 households, and 5,357 families residing in the city. The population density is 397.2/km² (1,028.5/mi²). There are 8,114 housing units at an average density of 168.2/km² (435.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 80.95% White, 3.75% African American, 8.69% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.99% from other races, and 5.19% from two or more races. 2.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,430 households out of which 32.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% are non-families. 24.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the city the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $32,245, and the median income for a family is $37,558. Males have a median income of $30,524 versus $21,609 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,266. 12.9% of the population and 11.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.2% are under the age of 18 and 17.4% are 65 or older.
