Olympic venue category mergers
FYI. I have been noticing that some category venues used for both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics have different names. All of the Winter games have YYYY Winter Olympics venues category listings while the Summer games either have YYYY Summer Olympics venues or Venues of the YYYY Summer Olympics except for the 2004 Summer Olympics which has Athens Olympics venues. Which way do you think needs to go? Chris (talk) 16:34, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think that "Venues of the YYYY Summer/Winter Olympics" is the way to go for the Olympic venue categories. Jim856796 (talk) 16:28, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Wikimapia ban
What is your Wikimapia user ID? -Arb. (talk) 08:50, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's the same as my user ID at all sites in which I am a member, Jim856796. I put something in the talk page on the WikiMapia article just for a Wikimapia user. I'm pretty sure you're not a user of Wikimapia. It will be hopeless if my ban from Wikimapia is permanent. Jim856796 (talk) 09:02, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- There is some discussion about you in Wikimapia's forum, here. You do not have to be logged in to read it. I have not read it (too long, other pressing matters) but if you believe that you have been treated unfairly then your best bet is to appeal to koriakine at the general email address given in WikiMapia's FAQ. -Arb. (talk) 11:59, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I usually read my e-mails at MSN Explorer, but I have not used it for months because they were not able to sign me in due to a problem with their service. So technically MSN Explorer is not working on my computer. Also, that restriction also means that I cannot see my replies. I will never get unbanned from WikiMapia in any way. I was going to answer the questions, but they banned me before I could do so. Should I resign from Wikipedia because of this? Jim856796 (talk) 12:20, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- "I was going to answer the questions, but they banned me before I could do so." If that is true then it would be a very good argument to put to koriakine once you get your email working.
- "Should I resign from Wikipedia because of this?" No. Incidents on WikiMapia are of no consequence to Wikipedia.
- Please note that I will not be able to spend any more time on this. -Arb. (talk) 16:47, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Hyatt Regency Birmingham
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Hyatt Regency Birmingham, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- no assertion of notability
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thank you for your comments on my work on Philadelphia architecture and skyscrapers. My overall goal is to improve all articles on Philadelphia skyscrapers, especially the ones you mentioned, but I haven't had a lot of time for Wikipedia recently. I hope to improve more articles soon. Medvedenko (talk) 22:48, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Mexicana tower
Hi! Regarding: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Mexicana_de_Aviaci%C3%B3n_Tower&diff=338505193&oldid=337307689
Do you have references for this material? When posting info, generally one needs to supply Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources - thank you WhisperToMe (talk) 08:45, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- I expanded the article with text translated from the article's corresponding article in the Spanish Wikipedia: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torre_Mexicana_de_Aviaci%C3%B3n. Jim856796 (talk) 11:45, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Still, it would be great to have sources that back up what is said on ES. On many other Wikipedias people don't cite things as much as on here. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:53, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: About the Olympic venue categories
Sorry about not responding to you. I remember posting it, but did not go back to the talk page to see if there was a response.
I understand your formality of the "Venues at the YYYY Summer/Winter Olympics" as a category. My reasoning for "YYYY Summer/Winter Olympic venues" was more out of simplicity, plus when you have some venues that have hosted other sporting events since then like the FIFA World Cup, most notably Wembley Stadium or Olympic Stadium (Munich), you can imagine that the amount of computer space that is requred to store that data can add up, especially with the addition of some sports and their respective venues in recent Olympics.
I think we may want to take this to the Olympics project and let the project hash it out because there may be some users who want yours while other want mine.
