King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Deva of Nepal (born July 7, 1947) is the two-time (and current) king of Nepal.
As the younger son of Prince (later king) Mahendra, the infant Gyanendra became king for two months (1950-1951) when the rest of his family was in exile. His grandfather Tribhuvan was returned to the throne shortly after, when the Rana family conceded power.
Fifty years later, when his nephew Dipendra killed most of the family, including King Birendra (his brother), Gyanendra became king again. He has tried to exercise more control over the government in order to combat the Maoist rebellion and other problems.
