Rodyle is a fictional character from the Namco role-playing game, Tales of Symphonia.
Rodyle is one of the Desian Five Grand Cardinals and the leader of the Remote Island Human Ranch. He intended to overthrow his master, Yggdrasill, and become ruler of the two worlds. To do this, he would construct the Mana Cannon, a mythical weapon used during the Ancient Kharlan War. If Rodyle succeeded, he would be able to destroy the Tower of Salvation, Cruxis's main base of operations. Unknown to him, he was actually being manipulated into building the Mana Cannon by the Renegades, who planned on using it to awaken the Great Seed and restore the Giant Tree. However, a Cruxis Crystal would be required to provide the mana needed for the beam.
In Sylvarant, Rodyle decieved another Grand Cardinal, Magnius, into gathering Gald (ToS currency) for him. He also tricked Magnius into fighting the Chosen's group by not telling him who they were, only that they were to be destroyed. The "Angelus Project" data that Kvar had been working on was stolen too.
In Tethe'alla, Rodyle used the Exsphere broker, Vharley, as a connection to the corrupt Pope. Vharley gave poison to the Pope, who needed it to get rid of the current king and take his place. In return, the Pope gave permission for Exsphere experiments involving Cruxis Crystals - the two victims of this were Alicia Combatir, who was transformed into a monster and killed, and her older sister, Presea, whose physical growth was halted for 16 years, which she spent in a zombie-like state. Rodyle would benefit from the research and the Exspheres that Vharley would supply. The latter was probably paid off with the Gald taken from Magnius. It is likely that the Pope was unaware of his helping Rodyle, as he hated half-elves. However, the experiment was a failure and Presea was freed by Lloyd, who made a Key Crest for her Exsphere.
Rodyle managed to kidnap Colette, whose Crystal he could use instead. Upon further inspection, though, he left her, deeming her "too sinful" to be used for his Mana Cannon.
Unable to produce his own Cruxis Crystal or steal one from the Chosen, Rodyle had to ask for help elsewhere. He finally obtained one from Pronyma, though it is never specified how. When Lloyd's group found him, he used it on himself to fight them off. Unexpectedly, instead of becoming an angel, he transformed into a creature similiar to an Exbelua. Despite his increased size and strength, he was defeated and his body started to break down. Realising his mistake in trusting Pronyma, he cursed her loudly and activated the self-destruct system of his ranch. This would later cause the deaths of Botta and his two accomplices.
Boss Battle
Rodyle's decision to transform using the Cruxis Crystal proves to be his undoing. Though physically stronger, he becomes extremely sluggish and a large target. Despite this, Rodyle is still a force to be reckoned with. As stated above, he is powerful (if slow) in close combat and can call upon hard-hitting Earth-type spells.
Attacks:
- Gravity Well - a mix of Earth and Lighting magic. A large field of gravitational energy surrounds the target.
- Insanity Force - Rodyle creates a ball of mana in front of himself that eventually explodes.
- Stalagmite - rocks appear from the ground to impale the target.
