Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus (born 24 July 1954) is a Portuguese football manager currently managing Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
Coaching career
Pre-Benfica
Jesus started his career as a manager, in 1989, taking Terceira Divisião club Amora. In 1993, he moved to Felgueiras, and in the 1994–95 season, he led the team to promotion to the Portuguese Liga. When he left Felgueiras, he took Estrela da Amadora in 1999–00, and he helped the team to an eighth place finish in the Superliga.
He then celebrated promotions to the top division with Vitória de Setúbal and Estrela da Amadora. In 2003–04, Vitória de Guimarães called him, and he led the team to avoid relegation, being two points ahead of Alverca.
He then coached Moreirense from April to May 2005. The team was unable to survive, however, and was relegated. For União de Leiria, Jesus was a bit more successful, and the team finished seventh in the 2005–06 season. With Os Belenenses, Jesus managed a young team and celebrated a fifth place finish in the 2006–07 season, enough for qualification to the UEFA Cup.
That same season, Belenenses reached the Portuguese Cup final, losing 1–0 to Sporting Clube de Portugal, with a goal by Liédson in the 88th minute. The previous season, 2007–08, Belenenses was punished losing three points because in a home match against Nava 1º de Maio, the team used Albert Meyong illegally. Belenenses subsequently lost the qualification to next season's UEFA Cup.
On 20 May 2008, one day after he left Belenenses, Jesus took over at Sporting Clube de Braga. The team played fantastic football in the the league and in the UEFA Cup. They managed to impress in the given competition, beating Portsmouth three goals to none and being the better team against Milan at the San Siro. The eventually managed to finish fifth in the Portuguese Liga 2008–09 and were eliminated in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Cup by Paris Saint-Germain of France.
