The Johns Hopkins School of Education is one of the nine academic divisions of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. The largest provider of master’s degrees in education throughout the state of Maryland, it is known for its emphasis on flexible learning formats that encourage individuals to remain employed in area school systems while attending. This tradition traces its roots to 1909 and the founding of College Courses for Teachers. Moreover, the School of Education’s proximity to and links with inner city Baltimore have further led it to place special emphasis on preparing teachers to deal with issues of urban instruction. It is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and all programs leading to certification are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.

In 2009, the school was ranked number seven in the annual listing of the U.S. News and World Report 's Best Graduate Schools of Education. [1]
