Cirò Marina is a comune and town with a population of 24,000 people in the province of Crotone, in Calabria, Italy.
History
Conquered by Spanish army in the XVI, locals were defeated by Spanish soldiers due superiority in spirit to combat and disciplin. Carelli and Sestito surnames were evident in the late 18th century.Carelli's being the caretakers of the sea and the Sestito's caretakers of the land.
Economy
Ciro Marina relies on the production of oil, wine, cereals, citruses, and the intense the breeding of cattle. Ciro Marina's natural resources, beaches and historical sites have yet to be exploited to benefit the towns economy.
