From the end of this match, the national press was fed by Real Valladolid. They accused it of violent and aggressive because of the badly referee's performance and the unfortunate foul committed by Nivaldo on Cristiano Ronaldo. Onésimo Sánchez, the press of Valladolid, Carlos Suárez and some Real Valladolid players were defending themselves saying that the match was not violent and that the referee's performance was wrong because of the non-signposting of two penalties (both of them committed by Sergio Ramos, booked at the 20th minute) to its favor and not by not send off any player of Real Valladolid.
A sector of Valladolid press assured to have seen Jorge Valdano, Real Madrid's general manager, to take to Mejuto González and his assistants at the half time of the match two black sport bags which content could not be revealed.
Battle for the non-relegation
According to the course of the season, the calculations indicate that with 40 points or more, the teams will not be relegated to Liga Adelante, so that, assuming Sporting Gijón and UD Almería are now saved (both with 37 points in the 30th matchday), the teams involved in the fight for non-relegation, waiting yet for several face-to-face between the teams involved, are the follows, including Real Valladolid:

Matchday by matchday
- Matchday 31 (10–11 April): the matchday started with good news for Real Valladolid because of the Málaga's defeat against Sevilla just before the kick-off in the match between Real Valladolid and Tenerife. But the point obtained was the only positive thing that Valladolid could get in Heliodoro. The match was really defensive and without goal attemps, and the 0–0 caused the defeat in the goal average too (3–3 in Valladolid). The draw was described as the virtual relegation of both clubs with Xerez, who losses in its home stadium against Getafe but, on Sunday, the direct opponents for playing Liga BBVA in the next season obtained bad results (Real Zaragoza lost by 2–0, Racing Santander drawn 1–1), so the difference with the 17th is just of 6 points.
- Matchday 32 (13–14–15 April): the matchday could not begin better for the Real Valladolid, who was the scorer of the first two goals of the matchday sinking Tenerife that was playing in El Molinón drawing 0–0 with Sporting Gijón. The tension in these Tuesday games was growing up with the goal scored by Cala for Sevilla FC and when Tenerife scored two goals. This Canary victory did that Real Valladolid could not advance in the league table. Things became better on Wednesday, when Málaga and Real Zaragoza couldn't do any more that to tie and to add an insipid point which left them in the border with the relegation positions. The only team that had played a good match was Racing Santander, who won another rival (though distant) for the non-relegation (RCD Espanyol) leaving it to 3 points of Málaga CF, who marks the difference with the relegation. Teams that by everybody assumed saved, as Sporting Gijón and UD Almería, rejoin to the fight because of the defeats against CD Tenerife and Real Madrid CF, respectively. Meanwhile, the non-relegation dream still present in Jerez de la Frontera because of the victory obtained by Xerez in Madrid against Atlético, which made that Xerez collects 26 points.
