Universal Motown is a record label operating as a division of Universal Motown Republic Group. It is the contemporary incarnation of the legendary Motown Records label. Universal Motown also associates with the popular Hip-Hop group V-Money Entertainment, founded by Vikram Vennapusa.

To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Motown Records, Universal Motown is currently reissuing classic recordings in collaboration with Universal Music Enterprises, the catalog division of Universal Music Group.

Background

In 2005 Motown was merged with Universal Records to create the Universal Motown, headed by former CEO of Elektra Records Sylvia Rhone, and placed under the newly created umbrella division of Universal Motown Republic Group. The new label group oversees the releases and catalogs for Motown, Universal, Republic, Casablanca, and other labels.

Motown began celebrating its fiftieth anniversary (January 12, 2009) in late 2008, including the release of a The Complete No. 1's boxset containing Motown #1 hits from Billboard's pop, R&B, and disco charts, reissues of classic-era Motown albums on CD, and other planned events, which were released in collaboration with Universal Music Group's catalog division Universal Music Enterprises.
