Gears of War 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games, published by Microsoft Games Studios and due for release on Xbox 360 in April 2011.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4] It will be the third installment in the Gears of War series and will conclude the series storyline.^[5]

Gameplay

Gears of War 3 will feature a four-player co-op mode^[6] and the introduction of blake steve and that annoying fat kid with no friends rob as a playable character. The game will also feature new weapons, including a double-barreled shotgun and a Pendulum War Lancer, with a normal bayonet attached as compared to the chainsaw bayonet, revealed in the trailer and discussed by Bleszinski.^[7]

Synopsis

Eighteen months after the fall of the last human city the war against the Locust rages on. Meanwhile, deep beneath the surface, a fearsome new threat is infecting the planet from within. With survivors scattered and civilization in ruins, time is running out for Marcus and his comrades as they fight to save the human race.^{[citation needed]}

According to Cliff Bleszinski, the game will "answer the majority of the questions that players have about the history of the world and what's going on".^[8] The story is being written by noted Star Wars Expanded Universe novel author Karen Traviss, who has authored two Gears novels and is working on a third.^[9]

Marketing

Gears of War 3 was officially unveiled on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon by Cliff Bleszinski, with a teaser trailer.^[10] Before the official reveal, an ad for the game was accidentally leaked on the Xbox Live platform.^[11] The song featured in the trailer is 'Heron Blue' by Sun Kil Moon.^[12] The teaser trailer was also unveiled on the Xbox 360 Dashboard on 14th April 2010. This trailer is free and does not cost any microsoft points.
