The United States Air Force's 556th Strategic Missile Squadron (556 SMS) was an intercontinental ballistic missile squadron that operated the SM-62 Snark missile at Presque Isle AFB, Maine. The unit was inactivated in 1961, after President John F. Kennedy deemed the weapon system to be "militarily ineffective".
