Super 8 is an upcoming science fiction film written and directed by filmmaker J. J. Abrams, and produced by Abrams, Steven Spielberg and Bryan Burk.[1]
Plot
In 1979, a train carrying important cargo from Area 51 is destroyed, causing its contents to be unleashed upon the world.[citation needed]
Production
Abrams and Spielberg collaborated in a storytelling committee to come up with the story for the film.[2] It was initially reported to be either a sequel, or a prequel to the 2008 film Cloverfield.[3] However, Abrams quickly responded to those reports by stating, "You have to check [out the trailer], but it has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting."[4]
Release
The first teaser trailer screened in front of Iron Man 2 upon the latter film's American release on May 7, 2010.[5]
Viral campaign
Within days of the official trailer release, several bloggers had already noted the presence of a viral campaign promoting the film including a single website extracted from what appears to be handwritten notes on the film stock in the trailer. This type of marketing campaign echoes similar campaigns used for Cloverfield in 2007.[citation needed]
