Most famous role

Would it be fairly POV to say Rose was her most famous role? I'm sure many others love her Sue Ann role, too. Mike H 20:08, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)

• None the less, the character of Rose Nylund was a lead character on Golden Girls whereas Sue Ann was only a recurring/supporting character. She was nominated for 7 Emmy Awards as Rose, only 3 as Sue Ann. She was on Golden Girls for 8 years AND on it's spin-off show Golden Palace; she was only on Mary Tyler Moore for 5 years. Dunno if I agree with that. She actually won more Emmies for Sue Ann, and MTM was on the air pre-cable, meaning that more people saw it in its first run than saw the slightly-better-ranked Golden Girls, which was lucky enough to compete in a more fractured environment. Also, the older MTM has possibly been seen by more people in syndication than the younger Golden Girls — though good luck actually trying to work out the numbers. It would be a task of exceeding difficulty to prove with verifiable sources that one character was "more famous" than the other. So I think it's definitely POV to say Rose was her most famous role, revealing more about the age of the person making the observation than anything else. I personally always think of Rose as the "anti-Sue Ann", not the other way around. Am I right to think that way? Probably no more so than someone who was introduced to her on The Golden Girls. Another thing to consider: what is fame anyway? Is it measured by number of eyeballs that have seen you, or the association people have between your name and a character that you've played? And what do you do with someone like Betty White, who's made more appearances as herself on game shows and non-fictional programming than any character? The lead, as is, works pretty well at encapsulating the totality of her work on television, rather than in trying to assess the relative "fame" derived by one part of her career over the other. First name

I've heard through various first sources (game show reruns featuring White) that her first name is Elizabeth. Can anyone confirm or deny this? JMyrleFuller 03:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

St Elsewhre

White did a memorable guest spot on St Elsewhere. Another storyline in the same episode had a character believing he was Mary Richards from the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Towards the end of the show, the guy is walking down the hall and sees White. Honorary mayor of Hollywood?

I just watched a 1955 episode of What's My Line where Miss White was a guest panelist, and quite a big deal was made about the fact that she had been named the "Honorary Mayor Of Hollywood". Uh, hello? Mary Tyler Moore?

I was checking this article to find out how Betty White originally became famous, but the career section starts with Mama's Family and barely mentions that she was ever on the Mary Tyler Moore show, let alone anything else before MF and Golden Girls. The hell? Was there information here that got deleted for some random reason? Okay, I figured it out. In mid-November someone replaced the pre-1980s content with vandalism, and then the vandalism was just deleted instead of being reverted, and seven weeks later nobody has noticed that the article is totally nonsensical. More recently guest starred as the "Witch lady" on an episode of My Name is Earl. Critics have commented that White could receive an Emmy nomination for her performance.

Betty White: Comedian?

Should this be among her many roles along with "American actress and former game show and talk show host"? She makes quite a number of talk show appearances in a comedic role these days. Not that she's a stand-up comedian or anything. She's filling a similar role that Bob Hope had on the Tonight show during the Carson years, but on many different talk shows instead. --ThePenciler (talk) 05:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

"American vegans" category?

Is she actually a vegan? She and the other Golden Girls have long been recognized for their activism in defense of animals, but I have always wondered if she is a vegetarian (or if Bea was or Rue is). Being associated with PeTA/animal activism does not automatically mean someone is a vegetarian. Saturday Night Live

I think it is incorrect to state that the Super Bowl commercial spawned the facebook drive to get her on SNL. The facebook effort started a week or so earlier already had 30,000 plus members prior to the ad debut. I agree with that comment, but I dont see any reference to Facebook or that movement at all.

I'm trying to add a refrence to the Facebook campaign. I'm pretty new to this so I dont know why my entry doesnt come out right. It's in a box and still in an edit font.

RE: TV SHOWS

With all due respect, at her age, SNL and Hot in Cleveland have not aired yet so were removed from Television appearances since it's possible it might not happen for one reason or another. If they do in fact officially air, then they can be replaced (or add "upcoming"). Anything could happen between then and now. I understand that episodes for the new show have been produced (yet not aired), but the SNL episode has not. The article already mentions it's to come. FYI only. Thanks.
