Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo (English: "If We Were To Be Apart") is a currently airing Philippine primetime drama series broadcast on ABS-CBN.

Overview

Casting

After some time, Kris Aquino, has come back to primetime after her last series, the successful television adaptation of Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara. Leading the cast, Aquino plays Celine, a woman who has trusted too much. Joining her is the "love team" of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson who have previously worked together in the successful teleserye, Tayong Dalawa. The two are playing star-crossed lovers though both their families have hidden secrets. Also from Tayong Dalawa are Coco Martin and Gina Pareno, who gained popularity for portraying Ramon and Lola Gets.

Veteran actors, Gabby Concepcion and Albert Martinez are also in the cast. This is Concepcion's next project right after the hit series, Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Because Martinez was still on the religious series, May Bukas Pa when production on Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo began, his character in May Bukas Pa was killed off during the first week of Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. Although he left the show, Martinez had been very popular as Mayor Enrique Rodrigo and returned to May Bukas Pa for the series finale. Concepcion and Martinez are romantic rivals for Celine. Maricar Reyes and Jacklyn Jose are also in the cast. Jose is back after her last series, Nagsimula sa Puso, where she also played a villainous role.

Story and Development

Plot

Celine is trapped in an unhappy marriage with Frank. One day Celine is shocked to hear that Frank’s plane crashed. Grieving the loss of her husband, she finds comfort in her friendship with Steve, the investigator assigned to the accident. Celine discovers that Frank had an affair with Astrud and they had a love child named Ringgo.

Eight months later, Frank is found alive. Steve walks away from his relationship with Celine. But Celine is already pregnant, however, she tells Frank that he is the father of the daughter she named Gwen. From then on, Celine vows to be loyal to her family.

After nearly eighteen years, Celine is reunited with Steve. She learns that Steve is married to Celina. Celine realizes that she still loves Steve, but she knows that they are no longer meant to be. To make things more complicated, Gwen, who has grown into a pretty young lady, meets Robbie, the younger brother of Celina. Gwen and Robbie begin as enemies, but later fall in love. [1]

Synopsis

A rather unfortunate event brings Steve and Celine’s paths together. An airplane crash leads them towards the same place while searching for two different people--Celine for her husband Frank who was then flying the aircraft turned to rubbles; and Steve for a fugitive who was reported to be one of the same plane’s passengers. It is a truly devastating event for Celine; and to further add injury to her loss, she once and for all discovers from her husbands recovered belongings that he is in fact the father of Astrud’s son, Ringo. With Frank’s body nowhere to be found, Celine is then left with no other choice but to assume that her husband is finally dead. Now that she’s a widow, she once and for all decides to move on with her life. Surprisingly, her goal is made easy by Steve’s sudden entry in her life; but unfortunately, their love affair is immediately cut short by Frank’s rather unexpected return.

To Frank’s delight, Celine gets pregnant; but surprisingly, the latter isn’t exactly as excited as he is. Apparently, she is pretty certain that the kid in her womb isn’t Frank’s--it is actually Steve’s. On the other hand, Steve somehow gets a kid of his own. Incidentally, he meets a poor orphan in Cebu named Robbie; and while waiting for the kid’s elder sister Celina to fly back home, he volunteers to temporarily adopt him. Surprisingly, aside from finding Robbie’s legal guardian upon Celina’s return, Steve also ends up finding himself a loving wife. Celine tries her best to be a good mother to Gwen; but to her dismay, her daughter only ends up hating her than ever. Apparently, Astrud’s plan to subtly win Gwen’s confidence is a raging success; surprisingly, the young lady even admits to her that she would rather have her as a mom over Celine. On the other hand, Robbie gets shot. Being an aspiring honorable policeman that he is, he tries stopping a deranged man from shooting an innocent driver, thus leading to his unfortunate predicament.

As the story goes on Celine is having problems being a mother to Gwen. Being a teacher, a mother and keeping secrets to her family wouldn't break apart. Meanwhile Gwen's rebellious side kicks in and as the mother daughter feud goes on anger erupts because of Astrud's ways both think oppositely where Celine thinks Astrud is just making Gwen do all these things just to get her side and her father's.

While Gwen thinks its only her mothers thinking that is wrecking everything no wonder to even her attention no one can get along. The past seems to catch up on Celine meanwhile as she heads to a convention Robbie and Steve get into the picture. Arriving to Manila for same reasons and Steve working while Robbie is going to take his education in the police academy. Meanwhile Frank persuades Gwen to say sorry to his mother but as she heads to the bathroom Robbie and Gwen met and unexpectedly things didn't go well as the two's bitter encounter makes things bad especially now that Celine and Celina met.

Steve's return makes it irritable for Celine to know that Steve is married to Celina and as paths cross, Gwen keeps seeing Robbie wherever she goes even at parties and even when Celina decided to apply as a teacher at Celine's school. As Celine and Celina become friends and as employee and boss both women feel unhappy with their marriages as for Celina she cannot give a child to Steve and as for Celine she feels as if the consent of Frank makes it hard to get her daughter's attention because of her rebellious ways.

Meanwhile Gwen gets kidnapped but survives because Robbie and Steve saved her. They saw an RX bracelet left in the location. Three unsuspected women who are trying to get back at Frank and Astrud who they owe too and are the members of the syndicate in the underworld. Meanwhile Astrud sees Steve and Celine's closeness, a problem then occurred and what leads them close is when Celine confronts Astrud.

As days go by Celine got pregnant with Frank. Robbie and Gwen go to the same school. The bitter meetings never end and as for Celina after Steve was handling Gwen's case, he wants to step up as father to Gwen and for the last few weeks he gets closer and closer to danger. Meanwhile Ringgo meets Christina and both get to know each other. Astrud knows this and opposes. Astrud confronted Christina to leave Ringgo alone.

Robbie, Ringo and Gwen decided to go out of town. As they all left the driveway, out of nowhere a team of men kidnapped all 3 which leads to a heated up revealation to everyone. As The RX gang has something to do with Frank's disappearance and Astrud's new business. The two now work for the underworld and now Steve believes Frank maybe the one all around it Celine doesn't believe it but Franks mother Petulah does.

Ringo looks for answers after remembering Astrud had a bracelet with an RX while Robbie and Gwen's love affair cannot be handled by Celine, Celina nor Frank. Gwen was prevented to see Robbie butto their dismay, she did everything she can to see Robbie. Her monther Celine, however, supported their relationship.

Meanwhile, while Barry and Celine was talking about the true identity of Gwen, accidentally, Petulah heard it. She gets mad and confronted Celine. Celine admitted and told Petulah about the truth. Petulah got upset and because of her anger, she slapped Celine multiple times. Celine was trying to explain but she refused to listen.

But Later Ringo Was REad of Gwen's Email for Robbie, Gwen Celine Petulah Ringo Frank and Astrud Was Transffred at the New House, Robbie Was Bring Flowers for Gwen Ringo and Robbie and War Battling for Gwen, Who is LOving for Gwen Ringo or Robbie?

Petulah promised to Celine that she would tell Frank about it. When she sees that Frank is also bothered with other problems, she decided not to reveal the truth about Gwen's identity. As the days pass by, Celine was trying to tal kto Petulah and asked for forgiveness. Petulah then listens and understands her daughter-in-law's situation. Petulah is bothered by the secret and decided to move to Astrud's house.

Though Petulah is temporarily living in Astrud's house, she has still constant communication with Celine. One day, Celine wrote a letter for Petulah. She thanks Petulah for not telling the truth to Frank. Petulah is being bothered by her conscience, told Ringgo about the secret. Ringo gets mad but Petulah forced Ringo not to tell anyone about the secret. While they were talking, accidentally, Astrud heard everything and did her very best to look for the letter that contains the schocking secret.

When Astrud found the letter, she called Gwen to see her through Ringo and Petulah have been trying to stop her. Gwen got surprised about what Astrud has told her. She got mad and confronted her mother, Celine. Because she felt bad about what was being revealed, she packed her things up and decided to leave their house. One day, while she was in her friend's house and was drunk, she was vomiting. Her friend called Celine and told her that Gwen was there. Gwen was out of her mind and while Frank was talking to her, she revealed her mother's secret about her true identity.

When they're home, Frank confronted Celine. While she was crying, she admits the truth. Frank got mad and slapped her. He told Celine that she can't leave that house and has to pay everything she did. One day, while she was trying to escape, Astrud saw her and trying to prevent her. To Astrud's surprise, Celine told her that she would give something to her. She slapped Astrud twice, one for meddling to their lives and second, for trying to influence Gwen. While Celine was on her way to escape, Frank arrived and by force, asked Celine to go back. Frank was looking for Baby Michael, who Celine hid through Barry's parents. She slapped Celine multiple times and punch her through Petulah was trying her best to stop her son, Frank. While in the scene, Steve and Celina arrived. Frank told her not to meddle and confronted Steve if he is Gwen's father but Celine them to leave and said that Steve is not Gwen's father.

Celina has a suspicion that Steve is Gwen's father. She sought help for a DNA test to answer her suspicions. Meanwhile steve was planning to tell her the truth but before it happens, the DNA result was already released. Celina keeps on crying after learning the truth. She decided to go to Celine's house, confronted her and throwing a lot of bad words to Celine. Petulah got shocked about learning the truth and asked Celine to leave the house.

Celine decided to leave and looked for Gwen at Steve's house to convince her to be with her and Baby Michael but Gwen has refused. Gwen also threw a lot of bad words to her mother.

Meanwhile, Supremo (Ronaldo Valdez) knows about what happened when Jason (Jhong Hilario) pretended that he is from NBI and asked the housemaid for some information. Supremo got mad and said that Celine has to learn her lesson and be punished. While Celine was on her way to the province where Baby Michael is with Barry's parents, the Una Vita people, headed by Supremo, followed Celine and has evil plan to shoot her but the bus driver was shot.
