"Eenie Meenie"
Song

"Eenie Meenie" is a song performed by Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston with Canadian singer Justin Bieber. It was released as the first single from Kingston's untitled third studio album on March 23, 2010.[4] It is also included on Bieber's My World 2.0 album. The song impacted mainstream radio on March 16, 2010.[5] The track was written by Bieber, Kingston, and Carlos & Steven Battey, Benny Blanco, Marcos Palacios and Ernest Clark and, was produced by Blanco.

Background and composition

"Eenie Meenie" is the first of two songs that Bieber and Kingston have collaborated on to appear on their respective albums. The song was written by The Jackie Boyz, who co-wrote Bieber's "Down To Earth", from My World, and produced by Benny Blanco, co-producer of Kesha's international chart-topper "Tik Tok". The song was posted on Kingston's YouTube, then first premiered on March 4, 2010 on Ryan Seacrest's website.[6] AOL said that "the song begins with a prominent synthesized back beat, followed by solo verses by both reggae fusion singer-rapper Kingston and the Canadian tween-sensation Bieber, as they sing about letting a girl go if "she's indecisive" and doesn't realize that you're "Mr. Right."[7] The review also calls the chorus catchy. Lean Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly called the song a "bouncy ode to indecisive shorties".[8] Sean Kingston and Justin Bieber and very talent musicians and eeniee meenie is a GREAT song!!

Critical reception

Kyle Anderson of MTV said that "Eenie Meenie" melds Sean Kingston's island-inflected dance-pop with Bieber's sweet tween R&B."[9] The review goes on, "It utilizes the children's rhyme "Eenie Meenie Miny Moe" throughout, especially in the chorus (where the pair sing "Shawty is a eenie meenie miny moe lova'") and in the half-sung, half-rapped breakdown ("Eenie meenie miny moe / Catch a bad chick by her toe.")"[9] Bill Lamb of About.com said "Both make the song sound effortless with a vibe that seems to land somewhere between Sean Kingston's uptempo "Fire Burning" and the glide of Chris Brown's "Forever", and says that the song was "one of the first releases of the spring to point toward a more summery sound."[10]

The music video was filmed on March 30, 2010 in Beverly Hills, California, and was directed by Ray Kay, director of Bieber's "Baby" video.[11] It was premiered on VEVO on April 29, 2010.[11] The video features appearances from Bieber's friend Christian Beadles, as well as rapper Lil Romeo and singer Jasmine Villegas.[11] There were also several appearances from The Rangers and We Are Heroes dancing . Jocelyn Vena of MTV News reviewed the video, "Here's the play-by-play: While Kingston and the lady in question are flirting out on the deck, Bieber is chilling inside. But, wait — there she is flirting with Bieber while Kingston is hanging out, wondering where she went. The fickle girl eventually leaves Bieber to chill with Kingston, and then — boom — there she is with Bieber again. And, well, you get it. Of course, the 'eenie-meenie-miny-moe lover' eventually gets caught. While she's chatting up Kingston, along comes Bieber, and her game is blown. The dudes are cool with it. Well, they're not cool with her playing them, but they seem to remain friends despite both going for the same girl.[12]
