Furkan Doğan (c. 1990 – 31 May 2010) was an American and Turkish dual-citizen who was the youngest person killed in the Gaza flotilla raid.

He was born in Troy, New York[1] in the United States and moved to Turkey at the age of two, and had dual citizenship.[2][3] He was a high school student in Kayseri, Turkey.[4]

He planned to visit the United States town he was born in later this summer.[5]

His father, Ahmet Dogan, is a 49-year-old assistant professor of accounting at Erciyes University.[1][6]

Gaza flotilla

He was a passanger in the Gaza flotilla raid. He died onboard the MV Mavi Marmara of five gunshot wounds, to the nose, back, back of head, left leg and left ankle.[7] [8]

Aftermath

His funeral service was held at the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul on June 3, 2010. [9] U.S. authorities in Turkey have offered U.S. consular services.[10][11]

His death will make it harder for the United States to avoid increased tension with Israel.[12][13][14]

On June 3, 2010, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed that Doğan was among those killed in the raid, and said U.S. officials had met with Doğan's father to express their condolences.[15] Clinton said, "Protecting the welfare of American citizens is a fundamental responsibility of our government and one that we take very seriously. We are in constant contact with the Israeli Government, attempting to obtain more information about our citizens."[16]
