Victoria Nicole Newman(born July, 21 1970) (formerly McNeil, Howard, Carlton, Hellstrom and Abbott) is a fictional character from the American soap opera The Young and the Restless. She was born on-screen in November 1982 as the daughter of Victor and Nikki Newman. As a child, the role was played by Ashley Nicole Millan from 1982 to 1990, and Jessica Jean Dollarhide did a voice-over in early 1991. Actress Heather Tom was the first actress to portray the role once the character was aged into her teen years in February 1991.
Tom left the show in April 1997 and the role was recast with Sarah Aldrich, who was let go briefly after her arrival and in October, Tom was asked to reprise the role, which she did. Tom, who won two Daytime Emmy Awards for the role,[1] departed on December 17, 2003,[2] saying her departure was due to creative differences. The producers spent a year looking for a recast and intended to have the character return in 2004, but yet in 2005 the role was recast.[3] Amelia Heinle took over the role on March 21, 2005.[4]
Character's background
When Nikki Newman became pregnant with Victoria, her paternity was in question on whether if she was fathered by Victor Newman or Nikki's then husband, Kevin Bancroft. Kevin's mother Alison Bancroft, who couldn't stand Nikki believed the child was Kevin's and set out to take custody from Nikki and even hired Rick Daros to romance Nikki in order of helping pulling both Kevin and Victoria from Nikki. Months later, it was learned that Victor was indeed Victoria's father. In 1990, Victoria wasn't happy about Nikki having married Jack Abbott, but he later saved her when he rescued her when she nearly drowned in the Newman Ranch pool. Afterwards, Victoria continued acting out until Victor, without consulting Nikki, sent her off to boarding school in Switzerland.
In 1991, teenaged (now almost adult) Victoria returned from boarding school determined to put an end to both Nikki and Victor marriages to Jack and Ashley Abbott. She then began working in the mail room at Newman Enterprises and sets her sights on the somewhat-older Ryan McNeil (Scott Reeves). Victor, unhappy about his daughter's involvement with the older man, attempts to pay him to leave town. Ryan refuses Victor's offer and elopes with Victoria. Their marriage does not last long, as Ryan leaves Victoria for Nina Webster (Tricia Cast).
After her divorce from Ryan, Victoria falls in love with Charles "Cole" Howard (J. Eddie Peck). They elope, but Victor is then forced to break the news that Cole's mother Eve (Margaret Mason) told Victor that Cole is his son. Believing they are brother and sister, Cole and Victoria annul the marriage. Blood tests reveal that Cole is not Victor's son. He and Victoria remarry. Eventually Cole leaves Victoria for Ashley Abbott (Shari Shattuck). Soon after, Victoria discovers she is pregnant with Cole's baby.
Neil (Kristoff St. John) is the first person to whom Victoria confesses that she is pregnant. Victoria and Neil become engaged and plan to raise the child together. They break off the engagement when the child, a girl they had named Eve after Cole's mother, dies shortly after birth. They remain friends.
Victoria develops an attraction to Gary Dawson (Ricky Paull Goldin), a shy marketing expert, who turns out to be a stalker whose bedroom walls are plastered with her photos, including a nude centerfold she had posed for years ago. Victoria discovers the disturbing collage on his wall, and is kidnapped by Gary and held hostage in the long-abandoned Newman children's treehouse. Nick and Paul (Doug Davidson) rescue her, and Gary is put in a mental institution.
Victoria and Ryan fall in love again and plan to marry. On the day of the wedding, Ryan's psychotic ex-wife Tricia (Sabryn Genet) kidnaps and ties up Victoria. She arrives at the ceremony dressed in a wedding gown identical to Victoria's, begging Ryan for a second chance. Victor rescues Victoria, and when she arrives at the chapel, Tricia produces a gun and fires a shot at her. Ryan jumps in front of Victoria and takes the bullet, saving Victoria's life but being killed himself, leaving Victoria alone and devastated.
In 2002, Victoria feigns an interest in ranch hand Diego Guittierez (Greg Vaughan) in order to find out whether or not he has been sleeping with Nick's wife, Sharon (Sharon Case). She eventually develops feelings for him and they begin a relationship. Victor, having found out that Diego had slept with Sharon, pays him to leave town, infuriating Victoria. When Diego is beaten up by two thugs, who also take the $100,000 given to him by Victor, Victoria tracks him down at the hospital and they reunite. Diego becomes consumed with revenge against the thugs who beat him up. Victoria does not like this new vengeful side to Diego, so she ends the relationship.
Victoria and Michael grow close in 2003. They fall in love, but Victoria leaves Michael and Genoa City in December, when family problems become too much for her to handle. Victoria is not seen or heard from until she returns to town in March 2005. She arrives at Michael's doorstep expecting to pick up where they left off. Michael informs her that he is now married to Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), and Victoria bows out gracefully.
Victoria starts dating Brad (Don Diamont) in 2005 and they marry in April 2006. She becomes pregnant with his child but losses it shortly thereafter. Victoria discovers that Brad had a one-night stand with Sharon shortly after they married. Victoria and Brad divorce. Victoria becomes pregnant shortly after deciding to divorce Brad, and is unsure of the paternity of the child. The father could be Brad or J.T.
Victoria turns to J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) whenever there is a problem in her relationship with Brad. The pair share two one-night stands; the first in early 2006, before her marriage to Brad, and the second in April 2007. Victoria becomes pregnant with a son that could have been fathered by Brad or J.T. Victoria and J.T. become engaged in October 2007. Days later, a pregnant Victoria is left comatose after being hit by a falling piece of rock during the Clear Springs explosion. Her baby was delivered prematurely via C-section. Victoria is cared for at the Newman Ranch. After a long wait and a few arguments between Brad and J.T., it is announced that J.T. is the father of Victoria's baby. While Victoria is still comatose, J.T. names the baby boy "Reed Hellstrom" after Nikki's maiden name, and because a reed is strong, and bends with the wind. J.T. brings the baby home to Victoria and she awakens from her coma. Victoria and J.T. marry in February 2008. Their marriage faces a rough patch when J.T. kisses Colleen Carlton and Victoria sleeps with Deacon Sharpe. After Colleen's death, the two reconcile, and amid scandal Victoria quits her job at Newman due to the article Billy Abbott published on her affair with Deacon. She then believes she needs a break, so she goes to Dubai and J.T. and Reed are still in Genoa City. While she is away, J.T. grows close to Mackenzie Browning, the woman he dated a few years back. When Victoria comes home, she grows close to Billy Abbott. She and J.T. get into a fight and she storms off. Victoria comes home and is furious to find Mackenzie there. She and J.T. then decide that their marriage is over.
On February 10, Victoria is named CEO of Jabot Cosmetics by her father. After Victoria is told that Adam Newman helped Victor to win Jabot in the bids, she refuses the offer, much to Victor's dismay.
Victoria and Billy begin a tumultuous romance that she insists on keeping secret. The secret nature of their relationship causes problems on the night of Adam Newman's murder. Though Billy and Victoria were in bed together at the time of Adam's murder, Victoria will not verify her whereabouts to the police and is placed under arrest, which causes her to miss the hearing at which custody of her son, Reed, will be determined. In her absence, the judge rules that her soon- to-be-ex-husband will gain full custody of Reed.
As Victoria is on the verge of being denied bail for Adam's murder, Billy attempts to save her, citing that they were together and that he's her alibi. Victoria tells him to shut up and denies everything he says. Billy goes to see her after the fiasco; they argue and part ways. Victoria's charges are dropped as the DA set his sights on two more likely suspects, her brother Nicholas and her father, Victor.
Victoria and Billy cross paths while at the 'Newman-Abbott Meeting' held by Sharon and Phyllis, attempting to rally support against the District Attorney in the form of a lawsuit. Billy is the only Abbott in favor of this. Later, at the GCAC, Victoria apologizes to him for the argument while she was in lockup. She admits that she enjoys spending time with him. Victoria stops Billy from kissing her in public, despite the cat being out of the bag,{per Billy}. He asks if she's playing hard to get, and she responds, "yes."
A second custody hearing is scheduled, where Victoria hopes to earn joint custody of Reed. However, after Tucker McCall tips off the judge that Victor tried to keep J.T. from missing the hearing, full custody is awarded to J.T. Billy convinces a depressed Victoria to hop on a plane to Jamaica with him. After a night of heavy drinking, the two get married. The next morning, they wake up and remember what happened. Victoria instantly states that she wants to get the marriage annulled; Billy would prefer to see where things go, but cannot bring himself to say that he loves her. Victor calls Victoria and, after learning that she is in Jamaica, asks her to come home immediately to help with a work-related issue. Jack similarly calls Billy and asks him to come home to deal with a problem with Ashley. Victor and Jack are shocked to find Victoria and Billy together at the airport. Victor berates Victoria for her involvement with Billy, but she points out that she is both divorced and an adult, and does not have to listen to her father. Similarly, when Jack tries to warn Billy off of the relationship, Billy points out that Jack is the last person who should be giving relationship advice.
After coming across a video of Victoria and Billy's wedding on Billy's computer, Abby Newman reveals the news of the wedding to many of the residents of Genoa City. J.T. is disgusted by the news, claiming that this action helps support his claim that Victoria is unfit to raise Reed; Billy's ex-wife, Chloe, is also upset. Victor shows up on Billy's doorstep to find Victoria there, half-dressed; he demands that she leave with him. Victoria refuses, and later flirtatiously tells Billy that she is starting to like the sound of the name "Victoria Abbott."
