Caeser cipher question
Sonia: I put this on the RD but since I got it working I didn't want you to miss it.
This code will run through every Caeser shift for a given input. If you're using a mac/unix/linux or have a PC with perl installed, this will work from the command line: cat FILE | perl -e 'undef $/;@i=split //,<>;($lr, $hr)=(32, 126);while($i < ($hr-$lr)){my @loop=@i;foreach (@loop){if (ord() > $lr - 1 && ord() < $hr - 1){$_=chr(((ord()-$lr+$i)%($hr - $lr)) + $lr);}}$i++;print @loop}'
If it's windows, change cat to type. Hope that helps some. Shadowjams (talk) 03:21, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
No idea why you wanted that done...
but, done. If you want it restored, just let me know. Courcelles (talk) 07:31, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Would you like me to perhaps, restore the latest revision? (Or even e-mail it to you, so you don't have to start de novo?) Courcelles (talk) 07:35, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- No, thanks. I've got a copy of it saved, and I quite like the idea of starting from scratch. :) {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 07:37, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Alright then, if there's anything I can do for you- whether it is button pushing or raising the issue about the "outer" somewhere more official, please let me know. Courcelles (talk) 07:40, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you
Sonia - Thank for your participation and support in my RfA.
I can honestly say that your comments and your trust in me are greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you ever have any suggestions for me as an editor, or comments based on my admin actions.
Thank you! 7 15:25, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

- Yep, I know. I have a watchlist, *nudge nudge* I won't join the GET AN ACCOUNT ALREADY party, though... {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 08:44, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Mjroots has 'threatened' to make a list of members for me, he did that to another long term ip editor already. Though I was thinking of a list it before his 'threat'. Maybe I'll register on the sly and see how long it take them to figure out who this 'new' editor is? That's GET AN ACCOUNT CABAL by the way! 220.101.28.25 (talk) Contribs 09:08, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Heh, maybe you should :) I see visions of checkusers frantically trying to find out who this sockpuppet is, too familiar with policies :) {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 09:14, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Just in case I forget before we next speak: I love your userpage. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:43, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) I figured out how to run skype from a pendrive at school... :P See you soon, anyway. {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 22:47, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are a rebel and a tech geek. Have fun. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 17:24, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Is that combination even possible? :P (Next step: Linux, so I can overide school systems altogether.) {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 20:51, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

- This sure sounds an awful lot like hacking! :O Set Sail For The Seven Seas 342° 5' 45" NET 22:48, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Eh... not really. All I've done is download stuff, delete system files I don't need (and conceal .zip files as other kinds of files so the school admins don't get suspicious), and then run it. No real hacking involved, because- as you know- I'm not a huge techie. (Of course, editing Wikipedia is enough for most people to think I'm a techie.)
- Either way, should be pretty fun because (rather stupidly) the school computers are configured to boot from external drives if one is inserted. So I don't even need to do anything silly like reset the intranet to gain access to the permissions I would need to reconfigure them. (Not that I have more than a vague idea how to do that.) {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 01:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well, if you're dealing with Windows XP you don't even need to do that! There's a crafty way of changing the administrator account password without knowing the original one! Also, in my experience of Linux, it is very useful for these things, but you'll need to be command line savvy to get the best out of it! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 206° 3' 0" NET 13:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- You can change the admin password? Cool. I've got (semi-legal) access to two teacher accounts (as junior technician and online classroom moderator), but no admin accounts. That would be fun. (From googling it, it appears I have to have access to command prompt. Which is disabled. Oh well... Is there another way?) {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 21:28, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- You could try opening command prompt through notepad via a batch file, which involves typing "cmd" in notepad and then saving it as a batch file. Also, it seems that you can more than just change passwords. You can add, delete, promote and demote accounts including your own! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 329° 26' 0" NET 21:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll try that when I'm at school. {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 22:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Please stop discussing how to hack your school computers on Wikipedia. The talk page is for discussion of editing Wikipedia. We give wide latitude to user talk pages, but this is going too far.-gadfium 06:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

- No, please don't ;-)
- If you do learn, let me know the secret ;-)

- Thanks! Most of the areas on Wikipedia that I work in, I first got involved by stalking and meddling ;-) I figure the worst that can happen is someone says "get lost, meddler" - but that's happened very rarely. Most people seem to welcome talk page stalkers ;-) TFOWR 12:24, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

The Working Woman's Barnstar | |
For, on an absolutely insane day, doing so much to handle queries on the test wiki, my talk page, and elsewhere to help flagged revisions' birthing pains a little easier. Courcelles (talk) 02:45, 16 June 2010 (UTC) |

- Well, that's a shame... I guess it's true, it is easier to get a barnstar for scrubbing vulgarity off someone's user page than for actually doing hard work; and you were doing hard work today. Courcelles (talk) 02:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
