Probably their best song ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GZrtU4sVA4 Please insert it into the article if possible! --84.56.225.236 (talk) 22:32, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Studio Albums
Hi. If I understand correctly, the 'discography' section for this page is intended to list the band's studio album releases, and the separate discography article goes into more detail and lists compilations, EPs, singles and so on. I have removed 'B-Sides and Rarities' from the 'Studio albums' list on this page because it is a compilation album and not a proper studio release. Feel free to change this up a bit but I would like to agree on how it should be listed (I'm convinced that putting B-Sides under studio albums is wrong).
Also, I'm not sure if 'Motorcade of Generosity' should be listed twice although I understand it's been re-released this year. I'm not sure about this so I've left it as it is for now but I wanted to bring that up as well.
Finally, I've not heard anywhere else calling the new album 'Burning Culture'. Again I'm leaving it as it is but I want to see a source for this (if for no other reason than because I'm excited for news on the new album).
Thanks in advance. Catalina 123 (talk) 17:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- UPDATE: Regarding the new album title, it appears to be a change made just a few hours ago on the history page (weird). I've poked around all the main websites and can't find anything on this. Catalina 123 (talk) 17:23, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Catalina123, thanks for looking into "Burning Culture". Per WP:HAMMER, I removed it until it's reliably sourced. I don't believe Wikipedia:WikiProject Alternative music has article guidelines, but we can use WP:MUSTARD. I don't see anything in there that says a list of albums needs to be a certain way.
Nine Inch Nails is a Featured Article, so looking at its discography gives suggestions of how it might be listed. My opinion is that all the bluelinked albums should be listed on Cake (band), not just the studio albums. How do you feel about that?
On a personal note, I'm always looking forward to anything new too (bootleg, live, album, whatever). tedder (talk) 23:11, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, I've added a 'compilation albums' section into the 'Discography' and put B-Sides there. I've also gone through the 'History' section and tidied up, putting release dates for each album. Most importantly I've updated the out-of-date information regarding the live album and new studio album. Catalina 123 (talk) 14:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Nice work on tidying! Why did you (re)add the new album, though? My feeling is it shouldn't be posted until more is known about it, but I'm fine leaving it there if you feel strongly. tedder (talk) 15:38, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't... Catalina 123 (talk) 16:03, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
The para that says "A new studio album is currently in the works, due to be released in 'Summer 2009'."? Oh, it was there already, you just rewrote it a little and the diff made it appear new. I'll remove it. tedder (talk) 16:11, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Why? It should stay there because it's information that was already there and is already known. The only thing that was questionable was the 'Burning Culture' title. Catalina 123 (talk) 16:28, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm okay with it staying if you feel strongly about keeping it. Otherwise there aren't a ton of reliable sources, and it's borderline WP:HAMMER. tedder (talk) 16:24, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's not because we're not creating a separate article for the album as we don't know the title yet (and there's not a lot else to say about it either). Hope you don't mind me putting that little bit back. Catalina 123 (talk) 16:28, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I understand, and I don't mind at all. Cheers, tedder (talk) 16:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- No worries. I just edited the Cake template as well - added a 'Live albums' bit and moved Crystal Palace there, which is hopefully in line with how it should be done. What do you think about putting Crystal Palace in the discography (on this page) under 'Live albums' as "(Unreleased)"? Just a suggestion. On second thoughts I think it would be a bit odd since the album isn't available. Catalina 123 (talk) 16:36, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ooh, I wasn't watching the template. I'll add it to my watchlist. I have no problem having it under "live albums" and "unreleased" here- it sounds correct to me. It's still a live album, even if it isn't released, right? Good work, BTW. tedder (talk) 16:40, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- That all right? I re-ordered the main 'Discography' page slightly as well (brought 'Compilation albums' and 'Live albums' up above the Demos and EPs and below 'Studio albums'). Catalina 123 (talk) 16:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Quite all right :-) tedder (talk) 16:57, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Cake/CAKE inconsistency
I want to address this issue which is bugging me. I understand the reasons for the article's title being "Cake (band)" in lowercase form and that it needs to stay as it is. However I have noticed that across this and other CAKE-related articles (i.e. the 'Discography' page, individual album pages, etc.) there is an inconsistency, with both forms used. I would like to agree on a standard form to be used constantly across all articles. I believe that 'CAKE' is the official name of the band and therefore I think this should be used. I propose that every instance of the name be written like this, including in the infoboxes. I will make this change across all articles if it's agreed that this is correct. If conversely we come to the conclusion that 'Cake' should be used, then again I will make this standard across all articles. Catalina 123 (talk) 17:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- So first of all, I've noticed that on the official CAKE website, and on their MySpace page, the 'CAKE' spelling is consistently used. I also remember, although I can't find it, an interview with John McCrea where he explained that the name is always written in capitals because it 'looks better', or something to that effect. Catalina 123 (talk) 17:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I plan to change this page, the discography page, the page for each record/single released, each band member page, the template, the Death Ray page, the Capricon and Columbia Records pages, and anything else which comes to mind. I will change each instance of the word to 'CAKE' so I want to make sure that this is acceptable and agreed upon before I go and do it and then find it getting reverted. Some pages have already been changed and I think the whole lot needs doing. If a good reason is presented for not using the capital spelling everywhere, I will go through and turn all 'CAKE's into 'Cake's. But I think all 'Cake's need to be 'CAKE's. Catalina 123 (talk) 16:03, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm posting on the road, but what about the consensus, above? No matter what, don't do it right away. tedder (talk) 17:10, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- That pertains to the title of the article, which is staying as 'Cake (band)'. Catalina 123 (talk) 20:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
