Tudor Square is a public space in Sheffield, England. It is known as Sheffield's theatre district and contains the greatest concentration of theatres in the UK outside London. Built in 1991, lies between Arundel Gate (a major road and transport hub) and Fargate (a major retail centre) and is in the central district of the city. The city square is home to the Crucible Theatre(north side), Lyceum Theatre(east side),the Sheffield Winter Gardens(south side) and Sheffield Central Library (east side), although only the Library Theatre part of the building can be directly accessed from it. On the west side are a numbers of cafes and bars, including a Starbucks coffee shop at the south-west corner.
The square has recently seen a major redesign and overhaul designed to coincide with the redevelopment of the Crucible theatre. The aim of the redesign was the improve access within the square.[1] The new design has also been inspired by a willingness to use the square for public events and facilitate media coverage of the World Snooker championships which take place at the Crucible each year.[2]
