ZYGMUNT MIŁOSZEWSKI (born 8 May 1976) is an award-winning Polish writer. Previously journalist and editor in Newsweek (Polish edition).
Zygmunt Miłoszewski published his first novel Domofon (Speakphone) in 2005. It was a horror/mystery story about a group of people traped in a haunted block of flats. Both critics and readers gave Domofon enthusiastic reviews and announced Miłoszewski "Polish Stephen King". Film Studio Zebra and Juliusz Machulski bought rigths for a film adaptation of Domofon.
His second novel was "Vipers' Mountains", fantasy for younger readers.
Third book "Entanglement" (Uwikłanie) is Miłoszewski's biggest succes so far. This award-winning crime novel Entanglement for which Miłoszewski got The Wielki Kaliber Prize For The Best Polish Detective Novel in 2007 (Nagroda Wielkiego Kalibru dla najlepszej polskiej powieści kryminalnej i sensacyjnej roku 2007) was published in United Kingdom in 2010 by Bitter Lemon Press. All Miłoszewski's books are translated to many languages, including English and German.
Publishers Weekly (June 28, 2010) wrote about Miłoszewski's book and gave it Starred Review: Miloszewski takes an engaging look at modern Polish society in this stellar first in a new series starring Warsaw prosecutor Teodor Szacki. (...) Szacki, who's undergoing a midlife crisis and has ambivalent feelings about his wife, considers an affair with journalist hoping to get exclusive details on his inquiry. Readers will want to see more of the complex, sympathetic Szacki.
Entanglement, 2007, ISBN 978-1-904738-44-2 . English edition: Bitter Lemon Press, London 2010 (Trans. from Polish by Antonia Lloyd-Jones) First published in Polish as UWIKŁANIE by Wydawnictwo W.A.B., 2007
This Zygmunt Miłoszewski's novel will also be soon adapted for the screen. Entanglement by Zygmunt Miłoszewski, which won the prize for Best Polish Crime Novel in 2007, is being adapted for the big screen by film director Jacek Bromski (Love in the Year of the Tiger). Shooting will start in early July (2010) in Krakow. Besides the screenplay, the project has the additional asset of a first-rate cast, including Polish film stars Maja Ostaszewska (Katyń), Marek Bukowski (By the River Nowhere), Andrzej Seweryn (Little Rose), Piotr Adamczyk (Karol: A Man Who Became Pope) and Olgierd Łukaszewicz (General Nil). Entanglement is produced by Studio Filmowe Zebra with the Polish Film Institute's support. The film will be lensed by talented DoP Marcin Koszalka (The Reverse), who is also one of Poland’s most controversial documentary filmmakers.
Other books and screenplays (including tv series) based on Zygmunt Miłoszewski's work are in pre-production. The next parts of Entanglement's protagonist, prosecutor Teodor Szacki's adventures will be published in 2011 and 2012.
