Mobilicity (formerly Data & Audio Visual Enterprises Wireless or DAVE Wireless) is a Canadian wireless telecommunications provider. Its name combines the words "mobility" and "simplicity".[1]

History

Mobilicity began offering service to the public on May 15, 2010. At the time of launch only the Toronto area was covered.

Network coverage

Mobilicity launched with service in the Toronto area. They have announced plans to launch service in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver later in 2010. There are no plans to launch in Montreal because Mobilicity does not have spectrum in Quebec. [2]

Technology

Mobilicity uses the AWS Frequency bands (1700/2100 MHz) to provide 3G GSM (HSPA) service[3]. This is the same as WIND Mobile in Canada and T-Mobile USA. Like WIND, they do not have a 2G network.

Unlike WIND, Mobilicity was able to arrange a tower sharing agreement with one of the incumbent carriers.

Plans

The following table shows the plans Mobilicity currently offers.

Pay-Per-Use is available for locations not covered by unlimited plans.

There are unlimited long distance plans for $20 such as the East Asia plan which allows unlimited calls to China, Vietnam, and more.

There is also unlimited mobile internet access for $40 a month.

Handsets and Devices

Mobilicity network is compatible with the same handsets and devices as WIND Mobile's network, and 3G handsets and devices offered by T-Mobile USA.

The handsets that are currently offered for sale by Mobilicity can be viewed on their website[4].

Roaming in North America

Mobilicity provides roaming within Canada on the Rogers 2G GSM network. They have not yet announced their plans for U.S. in International roaming, but it is certain that their roaming partner in the U.S. will be T-Mobile.
