WTF is a three-letter abbreviation with multiple meanings, as described below:

  • The World Taekwondo Federation, http://www.wtf.org/
  • Working Title Films, a United Kingdom film production company.
  • The role-playing game Werewolf: The Forsaken from White Wolf Game Studio can be compressed to WtF, which has led to numerous jokes because of its similarity to the "What the fuck" definition (see below). White Wolf has even produced a t-shirt that reads "WTF?" on the front and has the "Werewolf: The Forsaken" logo on the back.
  • A massive vbulletin ranting and raving site. http://www.wtf.com
  • An initialism for "What the fuck?" in Internet slang. Other, less frequently used meanings include: "Who/Where/Why/When the fuck?". Often seen in online gaming and chat environments. wtf can be used to express anger, hatred or confusion. It can also be related to wth which is what the hell.
    • It has been said that this meaning is sometimes used in military parlance, expressed in the NATO phonetic alphabet as "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot".
    • While sometimes written as qtf, the acronym retains its original meaning. The "q", originally the result of a mistyped "w", now holds humorous connotation.
  • wtf is also the name of a command line acronym database. It first appeared in NetBSD 1.5 (see the wtf manual page), and has been ported to many other operating systems.
  • An Awesome comic by Erik Schmaltz at www.OnlineComics.net AKA WTF?
