Irish Queer Archive (IQA) (Template:Lang-ga) is a comprehensive collection of material in Ireland relating to homosexuality, LGBT literature and general queer studies.
The archive was created by the National Gay and Lesbian Federation (NLGF) in 1979 and since then is maintained by a small team of curators, including LGBT activists Tonie Walsh and Ailbhe Smyth.[1] The archive contains press cuttings on LGBT issues from 1971 onwards, a library of over 250 international titles and complete sets of every LGBT title published since 1974 on the island of Ireland.[2]. The archive also contains a large collection of audiovisual material, photographs and slides, flyers, posters, badges, zines and other ephemera.
IQA provides an insight into the social history of lesbians and gay men in an Irish and international context over a thirty-year period. On the 16th June 2008 the Archive officially transferred its materials to the National Library of Ireland[3]. It will continue to be a living archive for future LGBT materials, although the archive is currently inaccessible to the public while archivists are documenting its contents. Plans are being made to develop a long-term strategy for the sustainability and development of the archive.
